BACKGROUND
One of the most important variables behind the miracle of the growth speed and recovery in the
Asia economies is the quality of education. The work ethic, ambition and resilience that is embedded
in Asian societies directly influences the education standard in Asian universities. Asian education is
getting better in equipping the people to become productive members of their given societies with
the skills and mentality to be able to successfully compete. We can see today more Asian students
and schools receive continuously top marks in international rankings. This remarkable achievement
also means that the competition among students is getting more intensive.
For students to be able to compete, there is a need for them to open their doors to more
opportunities in education. They need to explore and have some experiments that can enrich their
knowledge as well as their experience. Therefore, Asia Student Summit is held so that the students
can have a platform to exchange knowledge and observe directly all about the educational system,
the idea of studying abroad, and cultural exchange. Furthermore, trough Asia Student Summit, they
will be able to enhance more understanding about Asia society and what they need to be as an Asian
entity.

Nichola Gwon is an Australian artist married to a Korean man. In 2012, she started a blog called ‘My
Korean Husband’ where she posted comics about interactions with her husband, highlighting
cultural differences in a light-hearted way. Nichola realized there was a lack of positivity about
marriages likes theirs online and wanted to create something that showed the benefits of being in
an intercultural marriage. In 2013, Nichola and her husband Hugh started a YouTube channel with
the same name ‘My Korean Husband’ and used videos to further discuss being in an intercultural
relationship as well as vlogging about their life together.
By 2014, Nichola’s husband Hugh had been living in Australia for several years but they decided a
move to Korea was necessary. For 2 years they lived in the Korean countryside and built up the blog
and YouTube channel as well as using the time for Nichola to more deeply understand Korean
culture. Nichola started a webtoon called Nicholalala which has elements of Korean folklore and was
picked up as a featured artist on NAVER Webtoons. ‘Nicholalala’ is now an ongoing weekly webtoon.
Last year they moved to Seoul and regularly work with Korean media to spread their message of
understanding cultural differences.

There are some important things that might be very useful for your daily
activity or to be used during the event. Some of them are,
(*) Dresscode
It is Spring currently in Korea and is the best time to visit Korea. The weather
will be dry and warm during your stay. The temperature will be around 14oC
until 25oC, very ideal for outdoor activities with a very little chance of rain.
A warm jacket might be useful during your night activities or if you want to
go outside during your free time. It is not necessary to bring any winter
jacket as it won’t be too cold.
Transportation
Your transportation for all of the agenda will be covered, including your
transportation from/to airport in Seoul. Most of the time we will use public
transportation as the public transportation is very convinient, comfortable
and covering all of the areas on our agenda.
Please remind that the transportation cost outside the agenda will not be
covered and become your personal expenses.
Food & Beverages
The 3 times daily foods will be covered during your stay except at your
arrival day and departure day. At your arrival day, we will provide your lunch
and your dinner and at your departure day, we will provide your breakfast
only.
The foods during your stay will be mixed of Fast Food, Korean Traditional
Food and International Food based on the conditions and agenda. We will
provide non-pork meals as some of the participants are Moslems. If you
have any special needs regarding the foods, please let us know before the
program.
Personal Money
A kind reminder for you that all of the expenses during the program is
already covered in your participation fee. But, you may need to bring your
own extra money to be used during your free time. The amount of money
you should bring will depend on your expense plan while you are in Korea.
Electricity Plug
The standard voltage in Korea is 220 volts (and 60 Hertz, or cycles), and the
outlet has two round holes. If you do not have a multi-voltage travel
adapter, you usually can borrow one from your hotel's front desk for free of
charge (however, some establishments may request a minimal fee as
deposit, covering for possible loss). If you would like to purchase one in
Korea, you can find them at the airport, any of the retail stores, major duty-
free shops, convenience stores or even stationery stores.
During your stay in Korea, you can purchase SIM cards from the major retail
stores, convenience stores or from the website of the respective service
providers. More often than not, this service is cheaper than roaming
phones. Internet service is often provided in public places such as airports,
train stations, and bus terminals in Korea. PC rooms and internet cafes are
also great places to go for and they are mostly 24 hours in operation. In
addition, many of popular tourist sites are equipped with free Wi-Fi
connections as well to help international visitors to stay connected with
friends and families back at home. It is also a popular choice to buy a wifi
card or to rent an egg wifi router in the airport for a more convenient use of
internet service in Korea.
