Product: SBS Cone Crushers - All Models

Subject: Close Side Setting Sensor

Two Piece Cable Retro-Fit Kit

Your SBS Cone Crusher is equipped with an electronic digital display or TRAC10. The display or TRAC10
indicates the crusher discharge setting as measured at the closed side of the crushing chamber.
It is operational whenever electrical power is connected to the hydraulic control console.
A proximity sensor (Fig. B) is mounted opposite of the pinion gear on one of the power rotators. The sensor
counts the gear teeth as the gear turns, providing a reference for the display. An electrical cable connects the
sensor to the hydraulic control console.
The digital display must be reset to zero before crusher daily startup, or after liner replacement. Follow
the steps below to reset the display:
1. Stop the crusher. Lockout/tagout all power to the crusher drive motor.
2. Be sure that power is connected to the hydraulic control console.
3. Verify that the manual/auto knob (Fig. A) is in the MANUAL position.
NOTE: The manual/auto knob (Fig. A) should remain in the MANUAL position at all times unless the
hydraulic system is connected to a programmable controller or other remote control device.
4. Move the function control knob to the CRUSH position.
5. Depress and hold the CLOSE pushbutton until the crusher wear liners make contact. You will see the
crusher head (mantle) turn as the liners come together.
6. Depress and release the two reset keys on the display at the same time.
The display should now read “0.000”.
7. Depress and hold the OPEN pushbutton until the desired discharge setting is shown on the display.
Measurements will be shown in decimal inches.
IMPORTANT: To prevent damage to crusher, never attempt to reset the digital display during crusher operation.

MEASURING LINER WEAR
Liner wear should be measured periodically to ensure that the liners have not exceeded their wear limits.
Determine the amount of liner wear as described in the following steps:
1. Stop the crusher. Lockout/tagout power to the crusher drive motor.
2. Be sure that power remains connected to the hydraulic control console.
3. Move the manual/auto knob to MANUAL. Move the function control switch to CRUSH.
4. Depress and hold the CLOSE pushbutton until the crushing liners make contact. You will see the crusher
mantle turn as the liners come together.
5. Observe the value shown on the digital display. If no wear has occurred since the last time the display
was reset, the display will read “0.000”. If the display shows a negative value, it is an indication that some
wear has occurred. Always record the negative value (if shown) for future reference before resetting the
display.
6. To determine the total amount of liner wear that has occurred over time, add up the most recent negative
value measurement with the previous negative value measurements that were recorded earlier. This
combined measurement is the total amount of wear.
7. To ensure accurate wear measurements, always remember to reset the digital display immediately after
replacing the liners. Refer to the procedure on the first page of this brochure.
IMPORTANT: To prevent damage to crusher, never attempt to measure liner wear during crusher operation.

SENSOR ADJUSTMENT
1. Stop the crusher. Lockout/tagout power to the crusher drive motor and hydraulic control console.
2. Remove the cover over the hydraulic adjusting motor. The pinion gear and sensor will be visible (Fig. D).
3. Verify that the sensor is properly aligned with the sensor LED’s
located on top (above cable as shown in Figure B). Check that the
sensor is tightly secured to the mounting bracket.
4. Using a feeler gauge, check the gap between the sensor and
the closest gear tooth (Fig. C). The air gap measurement
should be approximately 0.06 to 0.13 inches (1.52 to 3.32 mm).
5. If the air gap measurement is not within acceptable limits,
loosen the sensor adjusting nuts and adjust the sensor position
as required. Check the air gap measurement again after
LEDs
tightening the nuts.
6. Reinstall the cover over the power rotator after completing
inspections and adjustments.
NOTE: When performing adjustments, check all gear teeth for sharp
edges or burrs that could skew the sensor reading. Figure B

Two Piece Cable
The new closed side setting Sensor retro-fit kit also includes a new two piece cable which has been made
available as a replacement to the original one piece cable. The new sensor incorporates a two piece design
to allow for replacement of the cable only, the sensor only, or both components. For units utilizing the original
one piece sensor cables, it will be necessary to order one sensor assembly kit (1034912) and one hydraulic
unit cable adapter assembly (1034366). SBS crushers began shipping in June 2008 with the new style
two piece sensor/cable assembly.

SENSOR ASSEMBLY KIT INSTALLATION:

1. Stop the crusher. Lockout/tagout power to the crusher drive motor and hydraulic control console.
2. Remove the cover over the hydraulic adjusting motor. The pinion gear and sensor will be visible.
Remove the existing cable, sensor and all mounts.
3. Install the new sensor mount (2, Fig. E) using the capscrew and washer removed from the old mount.
Make certain the bracket is installed at a 36o degree angle from the edge of the motor mount as shown
in Fig. D.
4. Install the new sensor assembly (1, Fig. E) on the new mount with one nut on each side of the bracket.
Make certain the two (2) LED’s are horizontal to each other and located above the cable (Fig. B).
5. Set the air gap (Fig. C) for the sensor following the instructions on Page 2 of this Bulletin.
Check the sensor horizontal alignment again after setting the air gap.
