I’m currently a second-year masters candidate at Loyola in their
Higher Education program. I received my undergraduate degree from Boston College (Go Eagles!) in Applied Psychology and Human Development. Before I attended BC, I did my first-year at Seattle University where I was exposed to the impact a mission driven and Jesuit education could have. When I decided Seattle wasn’t right for me, BC seemed to be the natural fit. BC was where both my parents went for college. It had a great psychology program, had sports and was somewhere that I felt that I had based my college perceptions on. When I was younger, my dad and I would frequent “The Heights” every weekend for BC football games when I was younger. When making my transfer decision, my family was a large factor, and an even greater helper in the decision-making process.
Upon graduation in 2016, I opted to pursue Higher Education due to
my positive experience as a Resident Assistant while at BC, and a passion for working with young adults. In the Higher Ed program, I have grown as an educator, person, advocate, and scholar. Through the dynamic and challenging courses that I have taken, I feel that I am now prepared to better engage with students, faculty and staff in any That’s me! (And my family) possible future work setting. In addition to my achievements in the classroom, I have spent my two years at Loyola as the Graduate Assistant for the International House where I helped oversee the community of 70 domestic and international students who live in the I-House. In this position I have assisted in the supervision of Graduate Student Living Assistants, managed I- House conduct cases, managed housing applications, mediated roommate conflicts and facilitated new- student orientation. The students and staff members that I have met and worked with have been instrumental in my experience at Loyola and in my growth as a higher education professional.
When I moved out to Chicago, I didn’t do it alone; I had my then
girlfriend now Fiancé move out with me. She’s a “real adult” since she works full time downtown. She has supported me, dealt with nights filled of readings and paper writing and even helped proofread some of my papers. Without her support, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and I wouldn’t have learned all that I learned throughout the program. This last semester has been an absolute whirlwind with the job hunt, work, academics, perfecting this e- portfolio and wedding planning! But, despite the craziness, I feel that I have used this time to find ways to seek balance in the many different areas of work that I do, while also keeping focus on the self-care and those who are important to me. I hope you have a good sense of who I am, and that you enjoy my e-portfolio!
