FIELD WORK REPORT

INTRODUCTION

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act


[MGNREGA] is a employment guarantee scheme enacted by legislation on
August 25, 2005. Most significant fact about it is that it is considered as a right of
a rural citizen to work for minimum 100 days in a year if he/she is willing to
work and job should be provided to him/her by authorities within a given time-
frame [within 15 days] otherwise State Government is iable for paying
unemployment allowance. Wages are also well defined in the scheme.

The main implementing agencies are Gram Panchayats and it has


accountability towards Gram Sabha. Gram Panchayats are also have power to
make plans suggestions for gram sabha. Job card are issued by Gram Panchayats
and incentives are deposited to the bank accounts of employees.

VEMURU VILLAGE INTRODUCTION

My field work village is Vemuru. It is a one of the big Panchayat in


Tirupati Rural Mandal, Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh. Our study village
Vemuru was located at a distance of 12 kilometers from the town of Tirupati. The
village was well connected to the town. There are 414 houlseholds and Total
population is 1442 among 703 are male numbers and 739 are female members. In
this Vemuru village 80% people are OC castes and another 20% is other castes
are living in the Vemuru village. The people main occupation is Agriculture and
also coli under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee
Scheme [MGNREGS].
There are 7 habitations are there in the Panchayat. They are:

1) Vemuru Main Village


2) Madigawada
3) Harijanawada
4) Vaddipalli
5) Turakapalli
6) Edigapalli
7) Kasthuri Kandriga

Under this scheme people clean lakes construct the roads etc.

OBJECTIVES

The MGNREGS was initiated with the objective of "enhancing livelihood


security in rural areas by providing at least 100 days of guaranteed wage
employment" in a financial year, to every household whose adult members
volunteer to do unskilled manual work.

BENEFITS OF MGNREGS:

Through MGNREGS Scheme the BPL people are get Economical benefits
they provide 3 time food to their families. Because of this scheme the percentage
of Child Labour is decreased.

INFERENCE

The Data Analysis of MGNREGS in Vemuru Village, the total number of


people in Vemuru Village is 1455. In it only 5% of people [Male, Female] utilised
MGNREGS Scheme. The MGNRES scheme is not used properly by the villages
of Vemuru because many people are depend in agricultural field.

OPINION

 The villages said that the MGNREGS Scheme is very useful to them.
 It is prestigious Scheme for empowerment of unemployed people and
below poverty line families.

CONCLUSION

Because of MGNREGS Scheme the people of Vemuru Village develop their


families economically and socially. The used this scheme for the development of
their village also.
