TITLE OF THE STUDY:

“A STUDY ON EFFECTIVENESS OF TRAINING AT KTDC,


TRIVANDRUM”
INTRODUCTION
The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) is a public sector undertaking
that conducts and regulates the tourism activities in the Indian state of Kerala. The KTDC is
headquartered at Trivandrum and has offices across all the districts of Kerala. The agency
also operates hotels, resorts, and tourist rest houses in key locations in the state. Its official
slogan is "Official host to God's own country." It is one of the most profitable ventures of the
Kerala government.

Training programmes assist in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of person at work
by improving and updating his provisional knowledge ,skill relevant to his cultivating
appropriate behaviour and attitude towards work and people . Also the training programme
involve considerable investment in terms of money, time and effort thus it becomes necessary
to study the effective

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Training and development play vital role in any given organizations in the modern
day. It is aimed at preparing employees for future or current jobs. The efficiency and
productivity of the firm can be increased considerably with right training methods. This is
the reason why HR department gives Training such a huge importance. So it is essential that
we conduct studies and experiment s to improvise our training methods.

The motive behind this study is to understand the effectiveness of training and
development programs on the employees of KTDC Trivandrum.

OBJECTIVES

1 To understand the process of training and development in KTDC


2 To know the perception of employees about the training programme
3 To know the satisfaction level of employees regarding training
4 To study the impact of training and development on the organisation
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research methodology is a way to systematically solve research problem. Research


methodology is a science that helps studying how research is done in scientifically. This
section deals with the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, analyze
and interpretation, limitation inherent in the project and finally coverage (scope) of the
research work given in this section

a. Research design

A research design is the arrangement of collection and analysis of data in a manner


that aims to combine the relevance to the research purpose with economy in
procedure. It constitutes the blue print for the collection, measurement and analysis of
data.

For this project study descriptive research will undertaken with structured
questionnaires. Descriptive research studies are those studies which are concerned
with describing the characteristics of a particular individual or of a group. The major
purpose of this research is the description of state of affairs, as it exists present.

b. Data Sources

Both primary and secondary data will be collected to fulfill the objectives of the
study.

Primary data will collected through structured questionnaires with closed end and
open end questions. Questionnaires will administered to executives, middle level
managers.

Secondary data was collected from the organization’s files, books, journals, articles
and website.

c. Research Instrument

The questionnaires will be the tool use for data collection.

Questionnaires are considered as the heart of a survey operation. It is an instrument


which measures responses to the same set of questions presented in the same way to
all participants. This helps to measure the motivation level of employees and
development of the organization more accurately.

d. Sampling Procedure

Here the research used simple random sampling studies.

Random sampling from a finite population refers to methods of sample selection


which gives each possible combination and equal probability of being picked up and
each item in entire population have an equal chance of being included in the sample

e. Sample Unit

Sample unit is the employees of HR Department, KTDC Trivandrum.

f. Sample Size

As the name indicates, sample size refers to the number of respondents or the size of
the sample, which is to be surveyed. Here the sample size taken for the study will be
50

g. Statistical Tools Used

The various statistical tools for the analysis and interpretation of data are simple
percentage method and Pie charts.

Percentage was calculated for each factor as per the below shown formula

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

Training is the act of increasing the knowledge and skills of an employee for
doing a particular job. It utilizes a systematic and organized procedure by which
employee learns technical knowledge and skills. Training refers to the teaching
and learning activities carried on for the primary purpose of helping members
of an organization.

Training is closely related with education and development but needs to be


differentiated from these terms. It is aimed at improving the behavior and
performance of a person.

Training is a continuous and life long process. Training provides an atmosphere


of sharing synthesizing with the help of the trainers, the information already
available on the subject.

LIMITATIONS

Though the study conducted to evaluate the motivational level of employees at KTDC,
Trivandrum, there will be some limiting factors pertaining to the study. They are:

1. The respondents will be biased and may not will give accurate information, so as to
protect their interest.
2. The study will be conducted in short span of time.
3. Some data required for the project will be keeping confidential.
4. The organization has a large number work force of but the study will conduct only for
100 employees
CHAPTERISATION
The project work has been presented in six chapters.
Chapter 1: Introduction. It also consists of definition of problem, need &
significance of the study, objectives, research methodology, scope of the study,
limitation and chapterisation.
