The 2018 VVA776 Scholarship Awards
The VVA776 Scholarship Committee is proud to announce the winners of our 2018
Scholarship awards. We had a record 13 completed applications!!! One of which was
submitted late so we still had 12. Six of the applications were submitted by grand
children or children of veterans, all but one were grandchildren of Vietnam Veterans.
But when it came time to choose who got the scholarships, we had to go with children
and grandchildren of chapter members. With that in mind, here are our recipients, with
ladies first.
The first one is Megan Kaczinki who will be a sophomore this fall at Iowa State
University. She plans on applying to the School of Design in the fall. She is the
daughter of Associate member Jeff Kaczinski. Next is Niccole Sage who is graduating
from Bettendorf High School this spring. She plans on attending Scott Community
College in the fall and wants to be either a dentist or an orthodontist. She is the
granddaughter of Dave Thode.
I feel I am blessed this year. I have been the chairperson of the scholarship
committee since its inception in 2011. I always encourage my grandchildren to apply
and this year I have two who received scholarships. The first is Brianna Williams who
graduated from Calamus Wheatland High School ranking 5th out of her class of 35.
She has been accepted to start class at Coe College in Cedar Rapids this fall and
plans on being a high school science teacher. And granddaughter number 2 is Kadee
Petersen who graduated from Camanche high school this spring. Kadee is following
her two sisters, Aubrey and Korrie who also received scholarships from us. Kadee
already has started classes at Clinton Community college and then start at Clarke
College in Dubuque next year.
Now for our two gentlemen. Matthew Barr graduated this spring from Geneva
High School in Geneva IL. He will be attending Iowa State University and eventually
wants to work as an athletic trainer. Matt is the grandson of Bill Cline.
And last but not least is Aidan Anglick, the grandson of Thomas Anglick. Aiden
graduated from Indianola High school in Indianola and has been accepted to Colorado
State University in Ft Collins CO and plans on majoring in economics.
