Magnetic Bearings / Permanent Magnet Electric Motors

Furukawa Electric has completed construction of the world's largest superconducting flywheel power storage system test machine at their facilities in Ashigara, Japan. The test machine uses high-temperature superconducting magnetic bearings to levitate a large flywheel that can store electricity generated by other sources. Furukawa will use the test machine to evaluate the performance and control of the superconducting flywheel system with the goal of commercializing a larger scale system.
