Sihinayata piyapath
“The whole purpose of Education is to turn mirrors into
windows”. Quality education will turn the empty minds
into open minds, which will ready to grab a learning from
everything happening around. If someone is travelling
through the successive path of education overcoming all
the challenges which came on their way, they will be the
best to be the beacon of light to another one’s darkness.
They will be the perfect guidance which one can receive
to bloom themselves as it meant to be. UoM Leos is always
willing to help somebody to rise through gifting the
education they received once. “Sihinayata Piyapath” is
such an attempt carried out throughout the year as a
continuous effort, holding a series of Mathematics
seminars for the students facing the O/L examination.
Apart from enhancing the mathematical knowledge UoM
Leos were able to motivate them to win the challenges of
life which they are facing today. We were able to plant the
thought in the minds of the students that the life will be
different from what it is now once they educate themselves.
By conducting the project series, we realized that the true
happiness can only be found by helping others to find it.

One of the sacred secrets of life is that all that is really
worth the doing is what we do for others. It may be a
simple kind gesture, but the value it beholds is worth
its weight in gold. There are so many schools in Sri
Lanka which needs the attention of everyone and the
support to uplift. The innocent children who are
educating in them may not have the basic facilities
which a school should have. UoM Leos always curious
in finding such places which needs the support the
most and helping them within their capabilities.
Batuwangala Central College, Neluwa which was
affected from flood was one such place which took
the attention of us. UoM Leos joined hands with the
Lions club of Dehiwala North to fulfill the necessity of
equipment to the computer lab having shortages.
We were able to donate about 5 lakh worth school
accessories including photocopy machines and
instruments for the aesthetic unit and the Leos and
prospects who went their repaired the sound system
and installed the computer lab equipment of the
school. The perseverance and the true hearts of the
Leos of UoM proved that many things are attainable
even it seems is hard.

To be clear, let’s take a simple story. There was a man and he was the only breadwinner of the family. So he
worked hard to earn money. His only goal was that. He thought he could make himself and his family
happy just by earning huge amount of money. So he decided to go aboard although he could afford his
family-expenses by salary he got by then. He worked so hard in overseas, he never went out with his friends
at work, sometimes he didn’t have time to call his family and he hardly came to see them just to save
money that goes for plane tickets. Years passed by and when he got older he had to return to Sri Lanka.
When he came, he realized that he has missed lots of things in his life. His parents have passed away. He has
missed the chance of looking after them. His children have grown up without him. To them, he is just like a
stranger. He was not there when they need father’s love; to pat them till they fall asleep, to teach them how
to ride a bicycle, to go on a trip in their vacations. His children and his wife barely had happy moments with
him. All the things he has done, he did it to be happy. But at the end he hasn’t spend a single moment of
happiness.
Having an aim for life, working hard to achieve it, is not a bad thing at all and it is a must. But we should not
forget to be happy in between. There is no level that you should pass to achieve happiness, it is something
that you can keep within you all the time. You don’t need money, beauty, power or anything to be happy.
There are lots of tiny little things around you which can make you happy. Just take a look at them. Spend
time with your family, go out with friends, instead of being in cyber-world through your smart phones or
laptops all the time, witness your real life. You’ll see how beautiful your life is.
Warm regards
