Inability to provide adequate nursing care to the sick disabled, dependent or


vulnerable/ at risk member of the family due to:
 Ignorance of facts about the disease/ health condition (nature, severity, complications,
prognosis and management); child development & child care
 ignorance of the nature & extent of nursing care needed
 Lack of the necessary facilities (equipment & supplies) for care
 Lack of knowledge & skill in carrying out the necessary treatment/ procedure/ care
 Inadequate family resources for care

 Negative attitude towards the sick, disabled, dependent, vulnerable / at risk member

Family Nursing Care Plan


 Is the set of actions the nurse decides to implement to be able to resolve identified family
health and nursing problems.

Characteristics of nursing care plan


 focuses on actions (designed to solve or alleviate existing problems)….The PLAN is a
Blueprint for action.
 product of deliberate systematic process
 relates to future
 revolves around identified health & nursing problems
 means to an end, not an end in itself
 continuous process

Qualities of a nursing care plan


Clear definition of problem
Consistent with the goals & philosophy of the health agency
Realistic
It is drawn with the family…nurse works with the family not for the family
Be kept in written form

Importance of nursing care plan


o Provides individualized care
o Helps in setting priorities
o Promotes systematic communication
o Continuity of care
o Facilitate coordination of care
