Time-Lord Techniques
• A lost set of timing techniques.

• Called time-lord systems (Greek: chronocrator).
• Not all placements activated at all times.
• Latent natal potential becomes awakened.
• Western equivalent of Indian dasha systems.
• Only recovered in the past 20 years.

Annual Profections
• The most widespread time-lord technique.
• No name for it in the Hellenistic tradition.
– Determining the Lord of the Year
• Count one sign per year from the rising sign.
– Ruler of the sign you come to becomes LOTY.
• Latin profectio: a going away, setting out,
departure, advance.
– To “advance” or “progress” at a certain rate.
• Can be done yearly, monthly, daily, hourly.

Activating the House
• When the profection comes to a specific house,
the topics associated with it are activated.
 2nd house profection = finances
 7th house profection = relationships
 10th house profection = career
• Call this a “X house profection year. “
– e. g. 2nd house profection year.
• Daughter of Elvis.
• He died when she was 9.

• Her inheritance was held in a
trust until she turned 25. 22
• Inherited Elvis’ estate the day
she turned 25.

Some Considerations for Interpreting the
Condition of the Lord of the Year
• Is the planet benefic or malefic?
• Of the sect in favor or contrary?
• In its own sign or exaltation?
– Or in its depression or detriment?
– Or in a mutual reception?
• Located in a good place or bad house?
• Is it bonified or maltreated?
• Are there any mitigating conditions?
– Aspects from benefics?
– Reception with malefics?
Good and Bad Houses
Mitigating Conditions
• Pay attention to mitigating conditions.
• Can offset things for better or worse.
• Afflicted planet made better by bonification.
• Bonified planet made worse by affliction.
• Reception and dignity are major mitigating factors
for planets afflicted by malefics.

the Lord of the Year is Located in
• Significations of the house that the lord of the
year is located in also become relevant.
• Example: 7th house activated by profection,
with ruler of 7th house in 11th house.
– A year in which relationships or partnerships with
friends is possible.

• Her inheritance was held in a Ruler of 2nd in 8th
trust until she turned 25.

• Estimated at $100 million.
• Founded Apple Computers with Steve Wozniak
Steve Jobs April 1, 1976.

• College graduation.
• Bill loses governorship.
• Gets in White House but problems with
healthcare efforts.
• Loses election to Trump.
Activation of Transits
• The planet that becomes the lord of the year is
activated both in its natal position and transits.
• Transits that become more important:
1. Transits to the lord of the year in the natal chart.
2. Transits by the lord of the year to natal planets.
3. Transits through the profected sign that year.
• Annual profections help to:
1. Filter out which transits will coincide with an
event versus those that will not.
2. Rank which transits are more important versus
those that are less important in a given year.

4th place / Capricorn profection year in
2014.
• Mars ingressed into Capricorn on
October 26.
• On the night of October 29 his house

• You can profect from any planet, place, or point.
– Not just the Ascendant.
• Creates a contextual time-lord technique.

Concluding Remarks
• Time-lord techniques are crucial for timing.
• They activate the latent natal potential of a placement.
• Only recovered recently, but we have learned a lot.
• Demonstrates the value in studying the older traditions
• Still much more research to be done.
• Time to reconcile the ancient and modern traditions.
