LECTURED BY: Engr. Edcel Colon

HISTORY
Frabelle Fishing Corp. is a diversified conglomerate with interest in international fishing business where it ranks
among the world’s biggest companies. The conglomerate is also into shipyard business, tuna cannery, aqua culture,
seafood processing, cold storage, properties and export trading.

The Frabelle Fishing Corporation, Philippines entered the fishing business in 1964 as co-founder of the defunct,
Diamond Fishing Corporation. In 1966, the present management of Frabelle decided to use their copra trading
company, Palfin Trading Corporation, to engage also in deep- sea fishing on their own.Frabelle is considered the
largest commercial deep- sea fishing company in the Philippines. With more than 100 fishing boats of different
sizes in operation. Frabelle also has the largest fleet based on the number of fishing boats owned by a single
company in the Philippines and in Asia.

Location
1051 Northbay Buolevard, Navotas city

MISSION
The company is dedicated in providing every Filipino’s household with products and services of uncompromising
quality, taste and value.

VISION
To produce any fabricated material they use for the maintenance of the ships and also to make the Frabelle’s
product the best.

PRODUCT LINE
The Frabelle Fishing Corporation is a conglomerate which deals with different area in business. They were
specialized in fishing business since the original company until now and it develops to the on-going in-demand of
the society. So as of now, the company not only deals with fishing, but also food products like sausages. Most of the
products of Frabelle’s has already reached the corners of the Philippines and even tapped the international market.
The company is one of the largest companies and still growing.

Even though the company is specialize in fishing business, they didn’t stop on food products and now in the present
they’re now dealing in ship making business. Thanks to their connections and investors, they were able to create a
fabrication area for ships. These ships were sold to Filipinos, locally as well as internationally.
ADVANTAGES
The advantages of the company are the following:

1. They’re not dealing with one product. The company could grow a lot by absorbing the demands of the locals and
provide it.

2. They don’t focus their products locally but also internationally.

3. The company could buy high end technology to help the efficiency of the production.

4. The company attracts investors internationally.

SOCIO – ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTION

Frabelle Fishing Corporation is a fully integrated seafood company based in the Philippines and operating
in areas that are part of the coral triangle. We have established a tuna processing and fishing entity in
Papua New Guinea and we are also part of a Filipino group who have acquired the PT Sinar Tuna
processing plant in Indonesia. We have plans of setting up a fully integrated operation in the Solomon
Islands as well in the near future. Our fishing venture outside of the Philippine waters was initially a
simple business decision primarily based on the need to be able to fish or operate the whole year round.
Our experience in the Philippines indicated that supply was becoming erratic and unreliable especially in
relation to sardine and tuna fishing as more fishing groups were established. In addition we worried that
many players within our local industry had started to use illegally sized nets where even juvenile tuna
and the round scad ( their source of food) were being caught without being monitored or controlled.

Our venture in the Pacific was bolstered when the Pacific Coastal states under the Forum Fisheries
Agency (FFA) of the South Pacific Commission (SPC) established capacity limits. At that time they decided
that purse seine fishing access in their waters was to be limited to 205 vessels. There was also a program
to gradually decrease foreign access vessels so that the Pacific Coastal States will have chance to develop
their own tuna fishery. In the Philippines, where fishing is almost a right for every Filipino encouraging
open access, we worried about continuity of our fishing business and as time passed we were proven
correct as the local tuna fishing industry in the Philippines subsequently collapsed. In the Pacific where
fishing is treated as a privilege we had peace of mind knowing that fish supply is ensured as capacity
control management measures are being implemented.

SUMMARY/RECOMMENDATION
The company is very flexible. It involves a lot of products and possible profitable things. Not only it grows as a
company but also it contributes to the economy and social demand in the county.

It’s not yet popular but someday it will contribute a lot to the government and people.
The only things I would recommend for the company is the facilities and machines. I would like to recommend the
cleanliness of the facilities especially in the area where we visited in our fieldtrip. Although the system is organized,
the environment in the area is not cleaned. Also I would like to recommend the addition of high tech machines
which makes the work of the engineers and workers exert less effort.

ENERTECH SYSTEMS INDUSTRIES INC.

LECTURED BY: Engr. Mary Joan Tubian
HISTORY
The ambitious government spending on infrastructure and public works projects has initiated the Philippine
industrial boom, leading the country towards economic prosperity in the 1970s. During this era, foreign companies
dominated the Philippine boiler industry. American, Japanese and European boiler brands has set up sales and
dealership offices in the country causing an influx of imported boilers installed in Philippine factories, hospitals,
universities and hotels.

The shortage of legitimate Filipino boiler supplier and manufacturer has ignited a young engineer's
entrepreneurship spirit! He envisioned establishing a 100% Filipino-owned company that can compete with the
foreign boiler giants, utilizing the talents, strong determination, and excellent innovative skills of local engineers.

In 1978, Engineer Guillermo C. Simeon, together with a group of talented pool of Filipino engineers established the
Enertech Systems Industries, Inc. The pioneering "The Boiler Technology People" of Enertech, were equipped with
experience, expertise and foreign training on pressure vessel fabrication gained from working with the foreign
giants such as Bobcock & Wilcox Co., USA, Combustion Engineering, Inc., Bailey Controls, to mention a few. These
engineers have the capability to design, fabricate and erect process and material handling equipment given any
design criteria.

Through the years, the Enertech team has grown. It now employs about 180 regulars, consisting of engineers,
accountants, business administration graduates, office workers, highly skilled technicians, welders, and backed-up
by a pool of more than 500 project hired workers. Since its inception, the Enertech team's innovative approach and
uncompromising attention to detail in the field of engineering has branded the company as the PIONEER and
LEADER in the Philippine boiler industry.

Enertech's aggressive research and development initiatives have resulted to multiple Filipino technical ingenuity
breakthroughs in the Philippine Boiler Engineering history. Enertech was the first producer of the Filipino-made
Biomass Boiler with the Enertech Type-H Waster Heat Boiler which utilized coco shell as fuel. Through continuous
innovation, Enertech never cease an opportunity to capitalize on its team's creativity and quest for excellence.

In 1989, the company introduced the Enertech Combi Boiler Design, which is a combination of fire tube and water
tube boiler. The furnace has water tube walls and utilizes coco shell/husk, rice hull or wood chips as fuel.

In 1991, it developed and built 3-Pass Wet Back Design for oil fired boiler, a unique design that highlights higher
efficiency at lower maintenance cost. In 2000, it introduced full automation for its biomass-fired boilers with its
state of the art Brain++, boiler automation technology using a touch screen in the boiler control room. In 2006, it
developed a multiple combustor with a reciprocating grate, suitable for burning biomass fuel and coal.
Today, Enertech Systems Incorporated continues to develop new and high technology products. Every Enertech
product maintains exceptional world-class quality, advanced technologies that are competitively priced. It has
produced more than 2000 boiler units and boiler systems installed all over the Philippines as well as exported to
other countries in Asia: Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Seychelles, Singapore, Papua New Guinea and
most recently to Australia.

Our diversified and impressive list of diverse and satisfied customers includes the biggest names in multiple
Philippine industries. Among these are San Miguel Corporation, URC, Jollibee, Coca-Cola, Unilab, Shangri-La hotels,
Proctor and Gamble, to name a few. Their continuous patronage is a testament to the reliability and performance
of our products.

For 35 years, Enertech Systems Industries, Inc. has proven its dominance in the Philippine boiler market and will
continue to be a true Filipino pride with every Enertech boiler product exported to neighboring countries in Asia, as
well as to other continents in the world.

Location
3855 Technology Road, Prenza II, Marilao, Bulacan

MISSION
We, The Boiler Technology People of Enertech Systems Industries, Inc. believe in the efficient delivery of goods and
services for our individual growth, our family, community, and the country's economy, through the pursuit of:

- the production of world-class quality boilers and allied products for the Asia market at competitive price, while
providing dependable service back-up organization with readily available spare parts to maintain an optimum level
of customer satisfaction;

- The global effort for a cleaner environment with the development of steam boilers using renewable energy,
particularly biomass fuel;

- The increasing growth in the agricultural sector through the production of efficient agricultural post-harvest
processing equipment;

-the distribution of complementing industrial products needed in the market place for world-renowned
manufacturers under exclusive agency arrangements and mutual technology exchange;

- The maximization of local resources and the employment of off-farm workers to contribute to the development of
the rural population; and

- cultivating productive work values and rewarding those that contribute to the over-all productivity of the
enterprise with unity, solidarity and professionalism upheld in the company.
VISION
TO LEAD

To be the leader in the distribution of steam boilers and allied products and services to domestic (Philippines) and
international (and / or Asia) markets.

TO SERVE

Enertech has the home court advantage - a dependable service back-up organization with readily available spare
parts to maintain an optimum customer satisfaction. To be a good corporate citizen, working towards the common
good of the community and to improve the economy of the Philippines.

TO INNOVATE

Our goal is to provide SOLUTIONS to our clients.

To do this, we look at every component of the boiler room and continue to study how our technology could add
value to the overall efficiency of the entire plant.

PRODUCT LINE
The company specializes in boiler making. In books there are 2 types of boiler water tube boiler and fire tube boiler.
The company produce different kinds of boiler which fits the client needs. Boilers depend on the purpose which we
use them so to maximize the use of boiler, the company fabricates different kinds of boiler. Their advance or best
product is a composite boiler which composed of a system where in a water tube boiler and fire tube boiler is
combined in one system. This type of boilers is applicable on large facilities for they consume a lot of space but
produce a lot of horsepower.

Not only they fabricate boilers but they also repair them. The company provides services in fixing the client’s old
boiler so that it would be less expensive for the client.

ADVANTAGES
The advantages of the company are the following:
1. Enertech is the only company who provide boiler in the Philippines. So every company located in Philippines
bought their boiler in one company which means large profit for the Enertech.

2. They train Filipinos to be productive and knowledgeable about their boiler so rest assured that their employees
are very competitive not just locally but internationally.

3. Enertech’s design are qualified in international standard.

SOCIO – ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTIONS

Since Enertech is a Philippine – based company, it contributes in the government through tax and industrial
outputs. Enertech is the only company which provides boilers and services and in our present time boilers are in
demand for large companies especially in plants and factories; so the company contributes to the local companies
so that they won’t be needed to buy their boilers internationally since we have Enertech here in the Philippines.

Also Enertech has a program which helps the youths to be trained in a fabrication company. The students especially
taking up the program mechanical engineering, undergoes training specialize in boiler design and making. So
Enertech contributes not only to financial means but also through giving the Filipinos the knowledge and
experience they need in order to be internationally competitive.

SUMMARY/RECOMMENDATION
The Enertech Systems Industries Inc. contributes a lot in the country. They provide so much service which helps the
country to be better. The only thing that I would recommend is they expand their products. Since boilers are almost
the same as tanks it’s just that they have different functions, they should also design tanks for the purpose of larger
loads.

ABOITIZ ELECTRIC CORPORATION

LECTURED BY: Engr Tony Ben and Ma. Kimberly Terbio

HISTORY
The Aboitiz Group’s involvement in the power sector goes all the way back to around 1918 with the Aboitiz family
owning around a 20% equity stake in the Visayan Electric Company (VECO) which was then started by a group of
Cebu-based businessmen in 1905.

In 1930, Aboitiz patriarch, Ramon Aboitiz, purchased Ormoc Electric Light Company from the Borromeo family, the
first utility the Aboitiz Group owned and managed. It was also about the same year when the Group partnered with
Francisco Such to operate Jolo Power Company. In 1935, it acquired Cotabato Light and Power Company and was
followed by the acquisition of Davao Light and Power Company in 1946. In 1978, the Ormoc and Jolo utilities were
divested and converted into electric cooperatives. That same year, the Hydro Electric Development Corporation
(Hedcor), was organized to venture into the hydroelectric power generation business. By 1990, Hedcor had a
portfolio of 14 plants and 36 MW of installed capacity. In 1996, the 70-MW Bakun hydro plant was commissioned
by Luzon Hydro Corporation (LHC), an Aboitiz joint venture with Pacific Hydro Pty Ltd of Australia. AboitizPower was
incorporated in 1998 to hold the Group’s investments in the power sector. The company initially held only power
generation assets but in early 2007, holdings in the distribution utilities Davao Light, Cotabato Light, Subic
EnerZone, San Fernando Electric and VECO were transferred to AboitizPower. Later that same year, ownership in
Balamban EnerZone and Mactan EnerZone were added into the company. In December 2006, SN Aboitiz Power-
Magat, the joint venture between AboitizPower and SN Power of Norway, bid for and subsequently awarded the
360-MW Magat hydro plant in Northern Luzon.

Aboitiz Power had an eventful year in 2007. In July, it became publicly listed at the Philippine Stock Exchange. In
August, together with Vivant Energy Corporation of the Garcia Group, partnered with Global Business Power
Corporation of the Metrobank Group to form Cebu Energy Development Corporation (CEDC) for the construction
and operation of a 246-MW coal-fired plant in Cebu island. In July 2008, AboitizPower, through wholly owned
subsidiary Aboitiz Power Renewables, Inc., (APRI) won the bid for and was awarded the Tiwi-Makban geothermal
facilities. Tiwi-Makban consists of several power stations located in the provinces of Quezon, Laguna, Batangas and
Albay in Luzon island. The Tiwi-Makban geothermal plants recorded a combined peak generation of 467 MW in
2009. In October 2009, AboitizPower, through wholly owned Therma Luzon, Inc. (TLI), bid for and was awarded an
Independent Power Producer-Administrator (IPPA) contract for the output of the 700-MW coal-fired Pagbilao
power plant in Quezon province. In February and March 2010, AboitizPower through its subsidiary, Therma Mobile,
assumed ownership and operations of PB118 (renamed Mobile 1) and PB117 (renamed Mobile 2), after acquiring
the two power barges from PSALM for U.S.$30 million through a negotiated bid concluded last July 31, 2009. Each
of the barge-mounted, diesel-powered generation plants has a generating capacity of 100 MW. PB 117 and PB 118
are moored in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte and Barangay San Roque, Maco, Compostela Valley, respectively. By May
2010, Hedcor completed the construction of its Sibulan hydro Plant B (26 MW), and its Plant A (16.5 MW) was
completed in July. Sibulan Hydro power plant went on full operations in the second quarter of that year.
Meanwhile, the coal-fired power plant of CEDC’s coal-fired units was also finished in stages and was commissioned
since the end of that same year.

Hedcor, Inc. began the commercial operations of Irisan Hydro 1 following the grant of a Certification of Compliance
from the DOE in April 30, 2012. SN Aboitiz Power-Benguet (SNAP-Benguet) has completed the rehabilitation of the
Binga Hydroelectric Power Plant (Binga HEPP). From its original capacity of 100 MW, the Binga HEPP in Benguet
now has a capacity of 126 MW. The rehabilitation was done one unit at a time to keep the plant running. This
began in April 2011 and ended in July 2013. Aboitiz Power Corporation’s subsidiary Therma Mobile, Inc.
inaugurated its four Navotas power barges signifying that the facility has completed its rehabilitation and is now
ready to supply power. The power barges now have a combined net sellable capacity of 225 MW.
AP Renewables, Inc. completed the rehabilitation of its Tiwi-Makban Geothermal facilities, resulting in an improved
availability factor and reliability factor.

Location
Calauan, Laguna, Philippines.

MISSION
We in Aboitiz Power consider it our responsibility to provide reliable and ample power supply when needed, ensure
that the supply of electricity is provided at a reasonable and competitive price, and lastly accomplish the first two
duties with the least possible adverse effects on our environment and our host communities.

but the power it supplies varies depending on the thermal heat it produces.

3. Makban geothermal power plant has a simple production system compared to other power plants.

SOCIO – ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTIONS

Since Aboitiz Electric Corp. is company which own and facilitates power plants on the Philippines, their major
economic contribution to the society is electricity. In our present time electricity is widely used since it powers the
technological devices we’ve been using. It also serves as a low cost source of electricity, which is very advantageous
for the consumers since every now and then prices in the market, is increasing so having a low cost for power is
beneficial.
SUMMARY/RECOMMENDATION
I would like to recommend to build more powerplants in the country since Philippines is rich in natural resources.
There are a lot of natural sources of power and it would greatly contribute to the betterment of the people and

ALMCOE

HISTORY
William “Bill” Almquist and William “Billy” Coe, were lifelong friends and co-founders of Almcoe Refrigeration
Company. After returning from fighting in WWII, Bill and Billy went to work for the Joe Hoppe Company, a local
Frigidaire dealer. After 10 years, they decided it was time to make their mark on the refrigeration industry, and on
April 25, 1960, Almcoe Refrigeration Company was born. Their first customers included A&P, Winn Dixie, and

joined Almcoe fulltime in 1976. He worked his way up, and in 1982 he took over as installation manager. In 1989
Bill Almquist purchased the company and he has been the President and owner since this time.

The current home office of Almcoe is in Dallas, Texas. The business is still operated out of the building where
