LP

This lesson plan aims to teach students about the social conditions in the Philippines before and during Spanish colonization through examining Antonio de Morga's book "The Philippine Islands" and Jose Rizal's annotations. Students will learn about gender roles, politics, arts, and science in pre-colonial Philippines by discussing a PowerPoint presentation comparing de Morga and Rizal. Students will then write a reaction paper answering how the Spanish colonizers affected Philippine culture and what mindsets they should adopt in response. The overall relevance is that the Philippines had a high culture before colonization and Filipinos should be proud of their heritage rather than feeling inferior.
