Learning Objectives : Pupils should learn to observe and recognise external
features of animals.
Learning Outcomes : At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
1. make a list of the external features of animals.
2. identify similarities and differences between
animals.
3. record the similarities and differences of external
features between birds.
Pre-requisite knowledge : Pupils have learned about the external features of
animals.
Scientific skills/thinking skills : Observing, classifying, making inferences and
interpreting data.
Scientific attitudes and values : Having an interest and curiosity towards the
environment. Being honest and accurate in recording
and validating data.
Teaching and learning resources : Big pictures.
Teaching steps :
1. Teacher asks pupils some questions about the external features of animals that they had
learned in the previous lesson.
2. Teacher explains the concept of similarities and differences of external features about
animals.
3. Teacher asks pupils to do an activity about identify similarities and differences of external
features between birds.
4. Teacher hangs 2 big pictures of birds (parrot and ostrich) in front of the class.
5. Teacher asks pupils to observe the 2 pictures and identify similarities and differences of
external features between the two birds.
6. Pupils sit into group of 5 and each group make a list about the similarities and differences
of external features between the two birds.
7. Teacher discusses with the pupils in class and writes down similarities and differences into
a table on the blackboard
