    A Waterproofing Materials Receiving & Storage Inspection

    The preferred roof systems for new flat roofs with a slope of less than
    13mm (1/2inch) vertical to 305mm (12inches) horizontal are:
    SAES-M-100
    A1 a) Inverted, loose laid and ballasted single-ply membrane system.
    Sec.1501.1
    b) Fully adhered single ply membrane system.
    c) Loose laid ballasted single ply membrane systems.

    Acceptable systems are 1.52 mm (0.060") thick EPDM (Ethylene


    Propylene Diene Monomer) or 5 mm (0.2") Modified Bitumen
    membrane systems or 1.52 mm TPO (Thermoplastic PolyOlefin) or
    PVC (PolyVinyl Chloride) membrane. If PVC and TPO membrane is SAES-M-100
    A2
    exposed, thickness shall be 2.0 mm reinforced & UV resistant. Sec.1501.1
    Note: Other flat roof systems can only be used with written approval
    by the Supervisor, Civil Engineering Unit, Mechanical & Civil
    Engineering Division, Consulting Services Department.

    Ballasted roofs shall have a minimum of 19 mm (¾") washed gravel SAES-M-100

    placed to a minimum thickness of 50 mm (2"). Sec.1501.1

    Stone used as ballast shall comply with ASTM D 448. (IBC SAES M-100,

    Class A, B and C roof coverings are tested in accordance with ASTM


    E 108 or UL 790. Class A roof coverings are listed and identified as
    Class A by an approved testing agency. Class B roof coverings are SAES M-100
    A5
    listed and identified as Class B by an approved testing agency. Class Section 1505
    C roof coverings are listed and identified as Class C by an approved
    testing agency (IBC Section 1505).

    Modified bitumen roof coverings shall comply with CGSB 37-GP-


    SAES M-100,
    A6 56M, ASTM D 6162, ASTM D 6163, ASTM D 6164, ASTM D 6222,
    Section 1506.4
    ASTM D 6223, ASTM D 6298 or ASTM D 6509 (Section 1506.4)

    Thermoplastic single-ply roof coverings shall comply with ASTM D

    6754, ASTM D 6878 Standard Specification for Thermoplastic Section 15013.2
    Polyolefin Based Sheet Roofing or CGSB CAN/CGSB 37-54.

    Roof-covering materials shall be delivered in packages bearing the
