Coolant, draining
1
Remove the cover on the expansion tank.
Note: When draining coolant, changing an engine component or carrying out repairs that
requires the coolant to be drained, the taps to the bus heating system must always be closed.
3
Drain the coolant through the drain plug on the bottom edge of the engine or on the radiator.
Coolant, refilling
Fit 2 air vent hoses (preferably transparent), one on the bleeder nipple above the engine next
to the front edge of the cylinder head and one on the pipe between the thermostat housing and
the coolant radiator.
Note: The positioning of the hose is slightly different on centre and rear engines.
2
Connect the filler hose on the nipple underneath the engine, immediately in front of the
flywheel housing.
Wait for a few minutes (the level decreases) and fill up again to maximum level.
Note: For this task, assistance is recommended. One person is required to handle the filling
apparatus and a second person to handle the engine.
Start the engine and let it run idle for at least 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, start the filling apparatus and make sure that you can see coolant in the expansion
tank.
Reduce the engine speed to idle running and leave it to run for a further 10 minutes.
Allow the coolant to drain from each air vent connection.
Reduce the engine speed to idle running and close the bleeder nipples.
4
Remove the air vent hoses. Replace the expansion tank cover.
5
Open the taps to the bus heating system.
6
Remove the filling hose and pump. Close the bottom engine covers.
7
Restore the bus.
8
Test drive the bus until the engine reaches operating temperature and the thermostat opens.
9
If necessary, refill with coolant after the test drive. Make sure there are no leaks.
