    spot on NFL roster
    Former Oklahoma QB says thorough notes a factor in his success

    Coaches talk. Players talk. Sometimes even to each other. Oklahoma offensive
    coordinator Chuck Long heard a story about former Cleveland Browns coach Butch
    Davis.

    When it was cut day two years ago at Browns training camp, Davis is said to have
    snuck into the room of former Oklahoma quarterback Nate Hybl.

    "He wanted to find out what guys were all about," Long said of Davis. "He found
    Nate's notebooks and a journal, and that really impressed him. He (Davis) thought,
    'This guy is very diligent. I can count on and trust this guy. I want to keep him.'

    "You never know what's important."

    Hybl said he didn't know Davis snuck into his room, but admitted it wouldn't be a
    surprise if he did.

    Hybl said he filled about five notebooks at his first training camp.

    So extensive were Hybl's notes, coaches would use him as a reference. "Hey, Hybl.
    What's your notebook say about this?" Hybl said, "It definitely was a factor in me
    making the squad, no question." Hybl spent three weeks on the Browns' practice
    squad and was added to the active roster for the remainder of the season.
