“ To what extent might science help or hurt people”

` The Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson is about

Dr.Henry Jekyll who is convinced that all men have two personalities in them. He invents a

drug to separate one man into two personalities and tests it on himself. Dr. Jekyll wants to

remove his bad side and make his good side better, but he ends up separating the bad alone,

while leaving his former self as he mixed as before. As a result, the bad side ends up killing the

good side in him The question that comes up in mind is to what extent might science help or

hurt someone? Science has helped us a lot for example: discovering about diseases, about

humans and to core diseases, human revolution and the bad that hurt people is biological

warfare, but scientists have to be careful. But does science help or hurt Dr. Jekyll? Dr.Jekyll

wanted to help humans originally but his invention creates more harm than good because the

results can be unpredictable and harmful.

In this story, the key example that shows that science can be dangerous because we can’t

always know the consequences is the fact that Dr. Jekyll, when he becomes Mr. Hyde, feels

“younger, happier, even lighter. A new, sweet sensation came over [him]” (214). He also

admits that he feels “free to be wicked” (214). In the story, when he is Mr. Hyde he doesn’t
care about good and evil. It’s the same to him. He hurts or even murders people just because he

wants to. Dr.Jekyll didn’t expect science could be dangerous.

Some might argue the potion has positive effects because it makes him younger, happier

and in better physical condition and it sounds like science can be help people, but the negative

side is greater than the positive because he murders and that is the most evil act.

To conclude, in the story The Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde by Robert Louis

Stevenson the main character creates a potion to separate the evil personality in people to get rid

of it and make humanity better. His experiment turns out to have consequences he did not

predict: he turns into a monster. So we see that science can be unpredictable and create more

harm than good.

Dr.Jekyll and ran away...one day at night Utterson was alone coming from the party and

he saw walking footsteps not so far, there are some light on the street but no people he saw two
