1. GENERAL INFORMATION
"SUMESH PET" make High Vacuum Transformer Oil Filtration Plant of4000 LPH Capacity is
V-/
ideal for conditioning transformer oil and drying transformer insulation. The oil conditioning
plant is designed for Conditioning of oils i.e. degassing, de-watering and filtration of
w transformer oil.
The filter machine is capable of purifying insulated Transformer Oil by removing dissolved
water, moisture, gas, dirt, fuss, carbon particles and other solid impurities of micron size. It
cleans the transformer oil and increases its die-electric strength and confirming the quality ofthe
oil.

3. PRINCIPLE OF WORKING OF THE PLANT
(Figures given in the bracket refer to the number given in the Flow Diagram).
Impure Transformer Oil from Transformer is sucked through inlet valve(1&2)by Inlet Pump(Bl). This
oil passes through preliminary filter/Magnetic Separator (A). Heater Chamber (C), Activated Clay
Column (Z) Bag Filter (I), Micro Filter Chamber (K) and enters Degassing Chamber (M). The Oil
Collected in Degassing Chamber (M) is sucked by Discharge Pump (R) and is pumped into the
transformer. Moisture and gases collected in the Degassing Chamber(M) are evacuated by Vacuum
Pump (X) Roots Pump (V). Micro Filter (K) removes solid impurities and Degassing Chamber(M)
removes dissolved moisture & gases.

4. DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPONENTS
(Figures given in the bracket refer to the number given in the Flow Diagram).
This is provided to prevent damage to inlet pump. The screen provided in the filter arrest large size solid
impurities, the magnet provided therein separates ferrous particles.
02. INLET PUMP;(Bl & B2^
There are three heater zones inside the heater chamber. Heating power of these three zones is as follows.
HEATER ZONE 1 30 KW.
Three Separate Heater ON/OFF switches are provided on the control panel for individual Heater Zone.
For obtaining different heating power,one or more of the above heaters are to be switched ON.
This gauge is provided on outlet of heater tank for indicating pressure tank.

06. SAFETY THERMOSTAT:(m

jA safety thermostat, range 30®C to 110°C is provided on the heater chamber to take care of any
W
accidental rise of temperature of oil and the heater will be put OFF in such conditions. The thermostat is
to be set at slightly higher temperature than that ofcontrolling thermostat.

07. PRESSURE RELEASE VALVE;IG^

This release valve provided on the Heater chamber and it operates automatically when excessive
v-/ pressure is built up in the Heater chamber.
o A Pressure Gauge is located at the top of Bag Filter Tank, to monitor the condition of Filter Cartridge.
When the Pressure Gauge shows the pressure above 1.5 Kg/cm^ then it means the filter are choked up
and it needs cleaning.
09. ACTIVATED CLAY COLUMNS;(Z\
Two activated alumina and Fullers earth Clay filled columns having each capacity of 150 KG is
provided for acidity correction of used oil. The column will be fabricated form mils steel plate and will
o* be welded construction. A Filter is kept at the bottom ofthe Column Having Dia. of440 mm The system
will be provided with bypass so that it can be bypassed when it is not in used. An extra gear pump is
provided which shall be used in case of need. Compound gauge and drain valve is provided for draining
ofoil during replacement ofthe material.
The Bag filter will consist of Filter Bag made of high quality fabrics having high dust holding capacity
to increase the life ofthe filter cartridge/Cartridge filter, it will be suitable for removal of particles above
10 Micron size. The filter Bag will be easily replaceable. A drain valve is provided for oil draining
purpose at the time of Bag replacement/Cleaning.
There are number of filter cartridges in the filter chamber. This cartridge which have fine pores. The
W solid impurities are arrested in these pores. These cartridges are throwing away type i.e. they are to be
thrown away when saturated with dirt.
It is of welded construction with M. S. material. The oil coming out from nozzle falls down and passes
through successive trays kept in the Degassing Chamber. Rasching Rings(M)kept in the tray serve the
purpose ofincreasing the area ofexposure ofthe oil falling on them.
The Degassing Chamber is provided with the twin objective of removing dissolved gases and moisture
content from the oil. The chamber is capable to withstand High vacuum to which it is subjected. The
rasching rings provided are sufficient to form a thin film of oil and will facilitate easy removal of
dissolved gases and moisture at the rated flow ofoil.
A sight glass (P) with lamp(O) is provided in the degassing chamber to view the level of Oil in the
Degassing Chamber.
Electrically operated Float Switch provided on degassing chamber to controls the oil level in the

degassing chamber by switching ON/OFF Inlet Pump. If the level increases beyond a limit the inlet
w
pump is automatically switched OFF. Another Float Switch is provided for low level and it stop the
outlet pump.

Solenoid Valve is provided in the degassing chamber to release the pressure ofthe degassing chamber at
^ the time of power failure and make the pressure equal to atmospheric pressure.
^ These gauges are provided for indication of vacuum in the degassing chamber.
17. AIRING VALVE:fTl
^ By opening these valves, air is admitted into degassing chamber and vacuum pump system for restoring
atmospheric pressure.
Vapor traps are provided in the vacuum line. These condense moisture and gases collected from
Degassing Chamber and prevent them from entering into Rotary Oil sealed Vacuum Pump (X) and
Roots Pump(V). These traps are provided with sight glass(W)and drain valve(TD).
The Vacuum Pump is provided with gas ballast valves to prevent contamination of lubricating oil of
pump with moisture, which is removed from the transformer oil. The plant having a facility to ensure

that, in case of power failure the vacuum pump oil is not sucked into the degassing chamber.
W ROTARY OIL SEALED PUMP:

Roots Pump (Mechanical Booster Pump) provides high suction capacity. This is twin lobe type very
^ efficient booster pump. Two identically concoon shaped rotors continues rotating while maintaining
certain small clearance with the casing and thereby exhausting the water vapour, dissolved gases &
moisture withdrawn from the de-gassing chamber to the backing pump. The booster pump (roots pump)

is operated in combination with rotary vacuum pump for better performance.

21. REFRIGERATOR:fREFI
Refiigerator is provided for cooling water circulation during Vacuum Pump(X)and Roots Pump(V)in
the working condition to maintain the temperature ofthe pumps.
Check the oil level and if necessary add oil up to the mark level. Vacuum Oil of
following make and grade is recommended.

Check the oil level and if necessary add oil up to the mark level. The above mentioned

Grade and make of Oil can be used.

Set temperature controller at 60-70 °C on the control panel. Set the Safety Thermostat(On
heater's Rotary-Dial type thermostat) at 75®C. This setting is not to be changed.

FILTRATION

In case of Low Voltage -20 Volt Than it will indicate RED LED and machine will not start.

03. Close Airing valve(T),after achieving vacuum in Degassing Chamber above 550 mm/Hg
Start Roots Pump(V).
08. For some time after the oil temperature reaches 60°C and remains steady, economy in the electric
consumption can be achieved by switching OFF,some ofthe heaters.
09. Open the circulate valve(17)and Inlet(1 & 2)and Outlet(19)valves should be kept in closed
position for internal oil circulation.

7. iSHUT DOWN AFTER PLANT HAS BEEN OPERATED FOR
PURIFICATION OF OIL.
w
02. Put Inlet pumps Auto / Manual switch in Manual Mode.
03. Switch "OFF" the Inlet Pump(B1 & B2)and close the Inlet Valve(1 & 2)continues open outlet
valve (19). Then after when the oil stops coming out of the outlet valve put outlet Auto/Manual
switch in Manual mode, switch "OFF" the Outlet Pump and close the outlet valve (19)and open
the circulate valve (17).
o 04. Continue running Vacuum Pump(X)for about fifteen minutes with airing valve(T)open. This
will remove moisture from the vacuum pump oil.

05. Switch OFF the vacuum pump after atmospheric pressure is attained. This is indicated by
vacuum gauge (U).

06. Keep all the switches in "OFF" position.
Drain the Heater Chamber, Bag Filter, and Cartridge Filter & Degassing Chamber by drain
valves.

9. SAFETY EQUIPMENTS
W
^ 1. Gear Pump is protected by a built in relief valve which by pass the oil back to the suction line in
the event of excessive pressure build-up.
^ 2. Over heating of oil is prevented by heater switching off automatically if gear pump motor is
OFF.
3. Adverse effect of heat on oil due to failure of control thermostat and consequent overheating
^ are prevented by safety thermostat.
4. Relief valve opens if the oil pressure in the heater exceeds the maximum permissible value.
5. Non Return valve is provided at the outlet to prevent sucking of oil back from the
Transformer in the event of power failure.
^ 7. We have provided MCB's on Motors and Heaters for short cur kit and overload protection.

10. MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
A. MAGNETIC STRAINER
DRSCRIPTION
This is inline magnetic filter. It separates and collects coarse and ferrous particles above 1 mm. That
prevents any damage to inlet pump. Magnetic strainer element will be cleaned without dismantling the
whole strainer from the line.

B. HEATER CHAMBER
DESCRIPTION
The Oil Heater Tank is constructed of welded M.S. Material. The heater inside the heater tank
^ heats the transformer oil to the required temperature. The Heaters are made of electrical
^ resistance elements enclosed in M.S. tubes with low density to avoid overheating ofthe oil.

The Heating elements are divided into 3 banks, controlled by a regulation thermostat. The
Thermostat is set at 60®C. The Heaters are electrically interlocked with inlet gear pump.

DESCRIPTION
u
Filtration of solid impurities is carried out by non-hygroscopic filter cartridges of high dust
holding capacity, which is mounted in the vessel. The medium of the filter cartridge is
progressively denser in the direction of flow. Thus coarser particles arrested in the outer layers
W
ofthe filter cartridge and relatively finer particles get arrested by the inner layers. Hence the full
depth of the medium is utilized for dust holding, thereby ensuring long life. The filter cartridges
are compact and can be easily replaced.
The condition of filter cartridge is indicated by the Compound Gauge(J) mounted on filter.

MAINTENANCE
When the differential pressure across the filter exceeds 1.5 Kg/cm. sq the filter cartridges has be
replaced. The filter cartridges can be dismantled for replacement as follows.

p. DEGASSING CHAMBER

^ DESCRIPTION
^ The degassing chamber would function as de-gasser and dehumidifier and will be capable of removing
's/ large portion of dissolved impurities from oil. It will be of M.S. Welded construction. Rubber Code will
^ be provided for sealing. Incoming Transformer oil will be sprayed on trays filled with Rasching Rings
(RR)the packed Rasching ring columns ensure distribution of oil in to a thin film there by maximizing
exposure ofeach particle ofoil to vacuum. Sight glass, illuminating lamp. Float Switch will be provided.
Inside will be coated with anti rust Epoxy paint. The De-gassing chamber will be of two stages. A
siphon Seal will separate two stages. A sight glass with illuminating lamp would be provided for
observation offlow of oil.
One float switch on the degassing chamber will be provided for preventing excess Oil Level. It will be
interlocked with the inlet pump electrically.
MAINTENANCE
As no mechanical and chemical impurities are stored in the chamber there is no maintenance required.

The FLOWWELL canned motor Pumps manufactured by us are subject to the usual

warranty by which any part thatfails within twelve monthsfrom the date ofcommissioning (or
eighteen monthsfrom the date ofdispatchfrom our works, whichever is earlier) due to defective
material or bad work-man ship will be repaired or replaced or replacedfree of cost F.O.R.
Bangalore, provided such a part is promptly returned to us at customer's cost. This warranty
does not extend to parts which are subject to natural wear and tear and also to damage caused
by atmospheric conditions, chemical influence, through the interference ofunauthorized person,
unskilled service and unsuitable working oflubricating materials. In respect ofelectric motors
our warranty will be null and void if:

s> a) The motors are incorrectly connected up are operated on electric supply having
characteristics viz. Voltage, number ofphases andfrequency, differentfrom those specified on
the name plate.

b) The motors are not controlled by suitable switches fitted with fuses of correct amperage
capacity and starters equipped with overload and under voltage protection and single phasing
preventor. IVe do not accept responsibility for damages or delay caused by defective material
and no claimfor labour in removing or replacing the defective part will be allowed.
