Preface
This design is intended as a delivery system and Rocket Launcher. The main working principle is
based on parabolic motion. The projectiles might be able to perform corrections on the flight path to
assure a correct landing. Considering the Martian atmosphere in which oxygen is slightly present, we
cannot use basic combustion propulsion systems (additional weight and volume into the vehicles to
carry oxygen tanks to assist combustion). Additionally, due to the low atmospheric pressure the
aerodynamics will have a very low effect, what makes difficult to utilize propulsion systems based
on propellers. Thus, to overcome the challenge of effectively travel very long distances in the Martian
surface and to outer atmosphere Electro Magnetic propulsion is proposed. The low effect of gravity
in Mars makes it more reliable to reach long distances. It can deliver packages to remote distances in
seconds, very adequate for emergencies, it can deliver water, food, oxygen, or specific materials to
expeditionary crew members or to other Martian cities/stations.
1.- Electro Magnetic Propulsion:
The main principle is based on the Lorentz forces, which are produced due to the influence of a current
through two conductive rails, and one conductive projectile causing a short circuit and producing
impulsive forces in concordance with the following equation:
𝐹 = 𝑖𝐿 × 𝐵 (1)
The main subsystems for operating an Electromagnetic propulsion system are totally achievable in
the Martian environment, also with the low gravity there, the projectiles can get nearly three times
farther than in earth with the same amount of energy. The main subsystems are:
a) Power supply
b) Injector
c) Conductive rails
d) Projectile

1.1 Power supply

That kind of propulsion systems needs a great amount of power, so, a nuclear power plant must be
placed nearly to the Launch center, the Martian surface allows to make such idea a reality (isolated
from humans). The power produced need to be stored in a bank of batteries, that can be under the
base of the rails. Then a series of banks of capacitors and inductors might be arranged to create a
high-power Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP). Well conductive systems might connect that power to the
rails to close the circuit and provide the desired propulsion.

1.2 Injector
The projectile might enter the rails with an initial velocity to avoid welding over it, so, there are two
systems proposed for this purpose, for common non-human package delivery, a light mechanism
provides the initial velocity. In the other hand, for Rocket Launch, the effect of gravity can be used,
placing rails down hills, connecting to the end of the launcher.

1.3 Conductive rails

The rails might be installed by IA robots, its configuration is based over a computationally controlled
mechanism to configure the trajectory and reach different targets by changing the angle of inclination,
while for the rocket launch the mechanism must align with the gravity rails. Rails can support the big
forces exerted by the magnetic fields.
1.4 Projectile
The projectile must have a conductive case, a vibration absorption medium, space for the payload,
like the woodpecker skull. On the edges it must have thrusters, to perform basic corrections on the
flying path. Also, a coupling mechanism to fit in the rails.
2. Parabolic shot
That curved path was shown by Galileo to be a parabola. The study of such motions is called ballistics,
and such a trajectory is a ballistic trajectory. The only force of significance that acts on the object is
gravity, which acts downward, thus imparting to the object a downward acceleration. Because of the
object's inertia, no external horizontal force is needed to maintain the horizontal velocity component
of the object. Taking other forces into account, such as friction from aerodynamic drag or internal
propulsion such as in a rocket, requires additional analysis. Since the Martian atmosphere is very light
that effect of aerodynamic drag can be ignored. A ballistic missile is a missile only guided during the
relatively brief initial powered phase of flight, and whose subsequent course is governed by the laws
of classical mechanics.
The components of the veolocities of fligh can be decomposed in cartesian coordinates, knowing the
angle of inclination, as follows.

The greatest height that the object will reach is known as the peak of the object's motion. The increase
in height will last until the vertical velocities reach cero value. And can be calculated from the
equation below.

By varying the inclination angle different target points can be reached.

3. Materials
The materials for the electromagnetic rails must be obtained from the Martian resources, the
conductive materials can be made out from aluminum which has been identified on the Martian
surface. Regolith extracted and produced in large scale to produce the resources needed for the
structural buildings.
