Very good!
PRIMING
Before we start the lesson, we will be having an

Mechanics:
1. The teacher presents an equation on the
board.
2. The student who wants to answer will raise (Students listened to what the teacher is instructing)
his/her hands.
3. When the student will answer the equation,
he/she should be start with the phrase of “I
believe” and ends with “ And I thank you”.
4. The student who will get the correct answer
will claim one chip to the teacher.
(The teacher will present an equation on the board ) Students will raise their hands.

5. 1 meter : ____________ centimeter 5. 100 cm
Very Good class!

Based on our activity, what mathematical concept

Student : Ratio
can you get? (Call someone from the student)

Let us see if your guess is correct.

ACTIVITY
Before we identify the kinds of line, let us have ( Student are already grouped by the teacher in a recent
another group activity. activity)

“ CAN YOU GET MY NUMBER?”

Mechanics:
1. The teacher divides the class into two
groups. (Students listen)
2. The teacher will give a questionnaire each
group.
3. Each group should answer the following
question on the questionnaire.
4. The teacher will only give 5 minutes to do
their task.

Questionnaire :
Group 1

1. What is the ratio of the number of your black

ballpen to the number of red ballpen?
2. What is the ratio of the number of short hair to
the number of longhair of female in your class?
3. What is the ratio of the number of curly hair to
the number of straight hair in your class?
4. What is the ratio of the number of playing
mobile legends to all students in your class?
5. What is the ratio of the number of playing rules
of survival to all students in your class?

Group 2

1. What is the ratio of the number of vowels to the

number of consonants in the English alphabets?
2. What is the ratio of the number of vowels to all
letters in the English alphabets?
3. What is the ratio of the number of male to the
number of female in your class?
4. What is the ratio of the number of male to all
students in your class?
5. What is the ratio of the number of female to all
students in your class?
Now, form a small circle with your group mates and
start doing your task.
(Students form a small circle and begin working to the
After 5 minutes activity)

Ok, time is up, Group 1 you can post your work on

the board! Go to your seats.
(Students go back to their seats)

Group 1 present your work

(Group 1 Presents their work)
Guide Question :
1. What mathematical concept can you get?
2. What can you say about the number of ( Student’s answer may vary)
playing mobile legends and to the number
of playing rules of survival? Are they even?
Why or Why not?

Group 2 present your work (Group 2 Presents their work)

Guide Question :
1. What mathematical concept can you get?
2. What can you say about to the number of ( Student’s answer may vary)
males and to the number of females? Are
they even? Why or Why not?

II. ANALYSIS
How do you find your activity?
Very Good !

Did everyone in the group cooperate? (Student’s answer may vary)

Very good!

How can you relate our activity for our lesson for
today?

Excellent!

III. ABSTRACTION
A proportion is an equality of two ratios
( Students listen)
The means of the proportion are its middle terms,
that is, its second and third terms.
The extremes of the proportion are its outside
terms, that is, its first and fourth terms.

A ratio is the comparison of two quantities.

On the other hand, a ratio can be expressed into two
1
ways : in colon form : 1 ∶ 50or in fraction form : .
50
We read the ratio “ 50 is to 1”.

“ In solving a proportion, we follow the rule “ the

product of the means is equal to the product of the
extremes, then substitute the value of x”
Let us try to observe this equation,

2: 𝑥 = 8 ∶ 16
8𝑥 = 32
𝑥=4 (Students try to answer the equation )

2 8
=
𝑥 16

8𝑥 = 32
𝑥=4

Student: Yes Ma’am!

Can you explain how did we get the value of x?
Student: In the given example, first we multiply the outer
term 2` and 16: next we multiply the inner term 8 and x:
then we divide both side by 8 and we get the value of x
that is 4.

Very Good !

Let’s try another examples.

𝑥 12
1. =
3 18
18𝑥 = 3 (12)
18𝑥 = 36
18𝑥 36
= (Students try to answer the equation )
18 18
𝑥=2

2. Kristine jarred 15 liters of jam after 5 days.

How much jam did Kristine jar if she spent 6
days making jam?

15 ∶ 5 = 𝑥 ∶ 6
90 = 5𝑥
𝑥 = 18

Now, can anybody give me some example of a ratio? ( Student give an examples)

Very Good class!

Is there any questions regarding the lesson?? Student: None teacher!

It seems that you understand our lesson.

Now, let’s have another activity
APPLICATION
Answer the given problems with your group mates,
after 5 minutes pick a representative to discuss your
answer on the board with a short skit.

1. Mang Kepweng prepared 16 kilograms of

sweetcorn after working 8 hours. How much
sweetcorn did Mang Kepweng prepare if he
worked for 9 hours?
2. Pedro bought 8 postcards during 4 days of
vacation. How many days will Pedro have to
spend on vacation before he will bought a
total of 10 postcards?

Now, form a small circle with your group mates and (Students form a small circle and begin working to the
start doing your task. activity)

After 5 minutes

Ok, time is up you can go to your seats. (Students go back to their seats)

(Group 1 Presents their work)

Group 1 present your work
(Group 2 Presents their work)
Group 2 present your work
(Student’s answer may vary)
How can you relate ratio and proportion in real- life
situation?
Okay very good !

Again what is ratio and proportion? Student: Ratio is the comparison of two quantities.
( The teacher call randomly to the class) Proportion is an equality of two ratios.

Very Good !
Student: It can be written in colon or in fraction form
Now, what are the two ways of writing or expressing
ratio?

Very Good !
Student: In solving a proportion, we follow the rule “ the
How do we get the value of x? product of the means is equal to the product of the
extremes, then substitute the value of x

Okay Very Good!

IV. EVALUATION

Let’s have a Seatwork.

( Teacher give the worksheet)

A. Find x to complete the proportion.

1. A teacher has two kinds of paper. Paper 1 (The students carefully and silently answer all the
has a ratio of 2 : 3 and paper 2 has x : questions.)
24. Find the unknown value of x.
2. A student who has two pencils wants to
find out the ratio of both pencils, she
already found out the ratio of pencil 1
that is 8 : 2 but she got lost when
measuring the pencil 2 who has the ratio
x : 6. Find the unknown value.

B. Solve for a in the following proportion

𝑎+8 14
1. =
12 4

2. 15 ∶ 3𝑎 + 7 = 35 ∶ 75

3. 𝑎 ∶ 21 = 52 ∶ 91
(Students will pass the papers silently.)
Okay kindly pass your papers

AGREEMENT

Assignment
Find the value of x to complete the proportion. Students will copy the said assignment.
1. 2 ∶ 5 = 𝑥 ∶ 10
2. 𝑥 + 8 ∶ 𝑥 – 8 = 16 ∶ 8
3. 5 ∶ 7 = 𝑥 + 6 ∶ 2𝑥 – 3
4. 3 ∶ 4 = 15 ∶ 𝑎
11 𝑎
5. =
7 91
