Given that the 2nd Street Two-Way Study has its origins in the
City’s desire to bolster economic development, this survey
included questions aimed at understanding the shopping
Summary patterns of respondents.
In consideration of census data, the survey begins to paint a

picture of the potential for improved economic development
opportunities along or near the 2nd Street corridor.
Observations include:
● Many households of young adults without children

● A higher median household income than in other areas
of the City
● A lot of walking among the 2nd Street population, and a
desire for enhanced pedestrian safety
● A clear desire for more shopping nearby, especially
grocery and restaurant options
● High unemployment in the City
● An opportunity for home-grown entrepreneurs
● A growing Spanish-speaking population
