e) chemical injection to inhibit scale formation, bacterial action and corrosion.

Above Surface

For above surface disposal the Vendor/Contractor shall ensure that all local and international
legislation applicable parameters are addressed and adhered to, if required by the Data Sheets.

Consideration shall be given to the following maximum oil in water levels presently applicable to
the locations specified for produced water disposal:

Disposal Environment Oil in Disposal Water (ppm)

Inland Agricultural Area 0 ppm

Inland Discharge to Desert Wadi 8 ppm - Note 1
15 ppm - Note 2
Reservoir Reinjection 2 ppm - Note 3

Note 1 : Based on average over 30 days,

GENERAL ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION GES Z.05
PRODUCED WATER DISPOSAL Page 11 of 21
Rev 0 1999

c) potable water;

d) instrument air;

e) purge gas.

The data for these supplies is given in the attached Data Sheets.

4.1.2 The Vendor/Contractor shall specify on the Data Sheet the process parameters for each utility
required to operate the disposal facility during normal operating, maximum and upset
conditions.

5.0 PROCESS

5.1 Process Flow Diagram (PFD)

5.1.1 The Vendor/Contractor shall provide a detailed process description, process mass balance and
process flow diagram to verify the acceptability of the process scheme to meet the requirements
of the Data Sheets.

5.1.2 A conventional oil field produced water disposal facility may include a settling pond and an
evaporation pond, with local run-off of the excess water. This basic scheme is installed from day
one when first oil production commences in the field. The initial design of the water systems is
generally completed by the engineering Contractor of the grass root GOSP facility.

As the field continues production over an extended period, water cut increases and local run-off
becomes unacceptable. To protect the local environment, the need for subsurface disposal into a
formation or alternate disposal method becomes a necessity.

5.1.3 This specification encompasses a process scope all inclusive, where the disposal facilities require
review and addition to those installed with the initial operation of the GOSP. The Data Sheets
shall indicate the scope, as applicable to the specific project.

5.2 Environmental Consideration

5.2.1 The siting of the produced water skim and evaporation ponds shall generally be arranged close
to the GOSP area, for disposal waters free of hydrogen sulphide. This system design generally
permits the use of gravity flow from the process and for surface run off.

When hydrogen sulphide is present in the produced fluids, the camp site and settling ponds shall
be located distant from the crude oil production area. In such situations, the location of the camp
site and ponds relative to prevailing wind directions shall be considered as of major significance.

5.2.2 A prime purpose of the facilities is to protect the neighbouring above ground environment
against the disposal of any oil entrained in the produced water, that may occur during upset
process conditions within the GOSP. Should the ground water be sweet and water table be high,
in the area, an intrusion of salty or brackish water into the ground water, can cause serious
ecological problems.

5.2.3 The design of the facilities for conventional or subsurface disposal by injection, shall give full
consideration to the produced water forecast figures over the life of the field. The facilities shall
be capable of accommodating the ultimate water disposal rates with minimal stepwise addition
of planned new equipment.
GENERAL ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION GES Z.05
PRODUCED WATER DISPOSAL Page 12 of 21
Rev 0 1999

5.3 Settling Ponds

5.3.1 The Vendor/Contractor shall ensure that the sizing of the holding ponds, individually or
collectively, shall accommodate the liquid flow rates specified for normal, maximum and upset
conditions, indicated on the

Data Sheets. The recovered oil from the disposal system shall be recirculated to the process at the
location specified on the Data Sheets where:

(a) skim pond design shall be based on providing sufficient retention volume which
provides separation to a specified oil micron particle size, in accord with "Strokes"
equations. The Vendor/Contractor shall provide settling calculations for Owner
approval to verify the sizing basis of the skim pond for surge, or other selected design
flow conditions as specified on the Data Sheets;

(b) calculations for evaporation pond sizing basis, shall be submitted by the
Vendor/Contractor for Owner approval, if requested by the Data Sheets. Should
hydrogen sulphide be present in the produced water for disposal, vapour cloud
simulation data shall be provided for Owner approval to verify the safe location of the
pond for all atmospheric and operating conditions;

(c) discharge flowrate of water from the pond systems will be dependent on the flow
volumes handled. The excess water may be pumped for injection, or gravitate to a
selected soak away area;

5.4 Injection/Disposal Facilities

5.4.1 The conditioned produced water for disposal may be directed to a subsurface formation. This
scheme is installed in fields where conventional skim or evaporation ponds are not desirable due
to environmental reasons. In certain cases, a combination of subsurface disposal with emergency
run-off, via originally installed pond separating systems, is provided to facilitate disposal of
increased produced water flowrates.

5.4.2 The produced water disposal facilities shall be provided by the Vendor/Contractor to include
treating and filtration units complete with pumping systems:

(a) booster pumps, if required, to provide net positive suction head and to transfer water to
various plant items, as necessary;

(b) injection pumps;

(c) flow and pressure controls, including flow metering, emergency and shutdown systems;

(d) over pressure protection and surge control.

The attached Data Sheets summarise the requirements for the injection/disposal systems.

5.5 Surge Holding Tank

5.5.1 Generally not necessary and not employed. Skim pond shall be utilised instead.
