ABSTRACT
A 10- item teacher made test covering the macro skills in reading was used as a
pretest to determine the ability of the pupils to comprehend the story presented. The
same type of test was used as a posttest to identify whether the pupils have developed
their reading comprehension skills through the use Mother tongue-based approach in
It was revealed in the findings that the pupils have developed their reading skills
It is, therefore, desirable for Grade 5 and 6 teachers to adopt the use of mother
tongue-based approach in the teaching process. It makes learners learn better and
easily.
