Honda has been calling the Activa the reigning ‘King of Scooters’ since the last 15
years and they aren’t exaggerating. Since its launch in 2000, the scooter has been the top-selling
scooter in India.
The Honda Activa 3G, or the third generation, is the latest iteration of the popular
unisex automatic scooter. And though the Activa 3G isn’t radically different from the previous
model, it does get minor cosmetic updates and six new paint schemes to choose from.
In terms of design, the Activa 3G continues with the conservative styling of its
predecessors. The Activa 3G gets a new set of 3D badges and new colour schemes, which lend
it a premium look. The tail lamp assembly has also been redesigned along the lines of the bigger
Activa 125 scooter, though the instrument cluster and a majority of other components have
been carried over from the previous model. The metallic paint has also seen a huge
improvement in terms of quality.
The Activa 3G is powered by the tried and tested 110cc Honda Eco Technology (HET)
engine which delivers 8bhp and 8.8Nm of torque through a CVT transmission. It rides on
hydraulic spring loaded suspension and 130mm drum brakes on both the ends.
The Honda Activa 3G is available in six colours - black, red, blue, grey, white and
brown paint schemes. It rivals the other 110cc scooters like the TVS Jupiter, Hero Maestro

HONDA ACTIVA STRATEGY & SUCCESS
In 2014 HMSI (Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India) overtook the Hero Splender the
highest two-wheeler seller ever in Indian market which is considered a great victory for a
company and model from a foreign company. In fact, Honda activa is the legend behind the
success it has single-handedly changed the story of scooter segment in Indian market. Industry
experts inspect the factors behind the huge success of Honda active. Since its launch, Honda
Activa has received a lot of upgrades and variants
Activa launched in India at a time when automatic scooters were considered a luxury
thing and Bajaj scooters were in trend, make bajaj leader, and number one company in the
Indian market however active changed the game of the two-wheeler sector in India and model
comes in the trend in India. Honda Activa was the first scooter model of HMSI for the Indian
market. A 102 cc scooter, Activa was specially designed keeping in view the needs and
preferences of Indian consumers who expressed that the conventional Indian scooter was too
big and difficult to handle and that the scooter was too small and similar to a moped. From
being normal scooter active emerged to be a scooter for all the genders and all the ages. How
did Activa manage this? The answer is simple. In India, HMSI gave people exactly what they
are looking around; great Honda's trusted engine and more mileage/performance, the current
60 kmpl mileage was unthinkable a decade ago, when scooters ran less than 40 km on a liter
of petrol. It also tried to make Activa as balanced as a motorbike and as nimble as a moped.
Almost one-third Activa riders are women. "India was a different market. A decade
ago, when scooters were on the fringes, there were hardly any women riders. Activa
transformed the Indian customer's mindset and took the market by storm.
In Indian scooter segment active achieved around 60% market share and became the
leader in the segment also highest selling two-wheeler in India. In September 2017, Honda
Activas registered sales of 322,922 scooters which marked a YoY growth of 7.09 percent.
Industry experts estimate that in Indian market the market share of scooters expected to
grow to 45% in 2019-20 from last fiscal’s 34%. Honda Activa is expected to stay on top of its
game for the coming years.
