Introduction
Low pressure networks are one of the key contributors to gas emissions, which have both financial and
environmental impacts.
Pressure control is used by gas utilities to reduce excessive pressure and leakage in the network. Leakage is
proportional to the pressure of gas and can be reduced by applying advanced pressure management at the
pressure regulators.
Established pressure profiling technology is capable of varying the outlet pressure of the governor to suit
network demand; pressures can be raised at periods of high demand and decreased at periods of low demand.
Technology
A single dual diaphragm control pilot is used in the auxiliary rail to adjust downstream pressure of the regulator
according to user programmable times of the day.
The image below shows an example of a clocked profile. Simple step changes to the outlet pressure of the
regulator station provide both a day and a night setting.
