Course Overview:
The French 10 curriculum is designed to encourage students to continue their
exploration of the French language, and to start confidently applying and creating
phrases in the language. Students will look into and explore the use of different phrases
and how they relate to themselves in the classroom, and to francophone communities
around the world. Through the different topics that will be covered over the course of the
class, students will develop their language skills and increase their confidence in
communicating in written and oral French, as well as explore their personal and social
awareness. As students’ gain proficiency in French, they will be practising and honing
various skills including critical thinking, creative thinking, and communication skills.
Resources:
Various types of written resources will be provided throughout the course as needed.
Additional resources will include video and audio.
Term Topics
**In addition to the major topics being covered, the ethics of cultural
appropriation and plagiarism will be continuously talked about throughout the
year.
Materials:
1. Laptop
2. Notebook or lined paper in a three-ring binder
3. Pen or Pencil
If additional materials are specifically required, I will either provide them or inform
students and parents appropriately ahead of time.
Classroom Expectations:
1. Students are responsible for coming to class prepared with their notebooks and
any materials needed for activities that day.
2. Students are responsible for any missed notes and/or assignments. Students are
expected to come prepared to join the next class after an absence, whether that
requires contacting a classmate or Ms. Little before the next class.
3. Students are expected to participate fully in class discussions and activities.
4. Homework is assigned so that students can practise and build their skills. It will
be checked periodically. If a student encounters difficulty with homework, please
come and see me for help before the next class.
Assessments:
Students will be assessed on the following curricular competencies through a variety of
in-class activities, assignments and tests:
● Thinking, reasoning and understanding
● Communicating and representing
● Connecting and reflecting on personal and social awareness
Evaluation:
All work will be evaluated according to provincial guidelines, and some assignments will
be criterion referenced where the student will receive the assessment criteria with each
assignment.

Tests: 30%
Quizzes: 15%
Projects & Assignments: 35%
Speaking & Participation: 20%
Final Mark:
Term 1 20%
Term 2 30%
Term 3 35%
Final Exam 15%
Extra Help:
This year, I will be available for extra help and quiz/test make-up times on Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Thursday mornings and after school. Please talk to me beforehand
so that I can make myself available. I look forward to helping you!
