Operation
Purpose : To carry out welding and gas cutting operation in a safe way to
avoid environmental impacts and risk associated with it.
Points of operation :
1. Carry out welding & gas cutting operation as per the procedure and as per
‘Monthly Production Plan’ and ‘Daily Production Plan’.
2. Manager – HRD & ADMN. shall carry out periodical (every 6 months) health
check-up of employees working in the welding section.
1. Engineer – Production shall ensure that the operator will not be exposed to work area
for more than eight hours in a day.
2. Associates shall use goggles, hand / head screen, hand gloves , ear plugs & masks
during welding / cutting operations.
3. The use of raw material, gases required for welding / gas cutting, compressed air &
electricity shall be used optimally. The associates shall take care of shutting off the
sources of energy like gases, air & electricity after completion of works.
4. Shift supervisor and operator shall check and ensure that fume extraction system is
working properly.
5. Operator shall ensure that the welding cable connections are tight.
6. Ensure that the fittings of the Gas cutting set are tight and there is no leakages of
oxygen DA check the tubes for damage.
7. Use flash back arresters to prevent backfire during gas cutting operation.
8. Take enough care while welding to avoid chances of fire by covering areas of spark
generation.
9. Do not store any inflammable material like fuel, paper packing material, chemicals
etc. in the welding area.
10. Switch off welding machine after the completion of welding work.
11. Close the cylinder valves after completion of gas cutting work.
12. The slag, dust or remaining of the raw material (not usable) generated after the
operation shall be collected and kept in the respective bins kept on the shop floor. The
same shall be disposed off effectively at scrap yard on specified places.
13. Follow the checklist at the time of shift start to ensure safe working condition.
