II. READING COMPREHENSION:

Ms. Ballard: I see on your resume that you worked as a manager at Computer
Country. Could you tell me a little more about your responsibilities there?

Carey Cornwall: Sure. I was responsible for overseeing about 30 employees, I


did all of the ordering for the store, and I kept track of the inventory.

Ms. Ballard: What was the most difficult part of your job?

Carey Cornwall: Probably handling angry customers. We didn't have them very
often, but when we did, I needed to make sure they were well taken care of. After
all, the customer is always right.

Ms. Ballard: That's how we feel here, too. How long did you work there?

Carey Cornwall: I was there for 3 1/2 years. I left the company last month.

Ms. Ballard: And why did you leave?

Casey Cornwall: My husband has been transferred to Emoryville and I


understand your company has an opening there, too.

Ms. Ballard: Yes, that's right, we do. But the position won't start until the middle
of next month. Would that be a problem for you?
Carey Cornwall: No, not at all. My husband's new job doesn't begin for a few
weeks, so we thought we would spend some time driving to Emoryville and stop
to see my parents.

Ms. Ballard: That sounds nice. So tell me, why are you interested in this
particular position?

Carey Cornwall: I know that your company has a great reputation and a
wonderful product. I have thought many times that I would like to be a part of it.
When I heard about the opening in Emoryville, I jumped on the opportunity.

Ms. Ballard: Well, I'm glad you did. Now, please tell me about...

SUCH AS BUSINESS MANAGER, WHAT WOULD YOU ANSWER:

1. Can you tell me a little about yourself?


R. I am a very responsible person, I usually arrive punctually at my
place of work, I am kind, tolerant and respectful with my co-workers,
patients and providers.

2. Why do you want this job?


R. Because I know the trajectory of the company, and I know that I have
an appropriate profile for the available opening. I know we can give
each other feedback.

3. Why should we hire you?


R. Because I have corporate values, professional ethics, experience and
most importantly, desire to learn from the activities of the organization.

4. What are your greatest professional strengths?


R. I am a person with the skills to fill this vacancy, I am proactive, I have
the training and experience necessary to meet expectations, teamwork
in a good way.

5. What do you consider to be your weaknesses?


R. A little bit my way of saying things. Sometimes I am so punctual that I
do not have the tact to talk about delicate things and I can hurt their
susceptibilities.

6. Where do you see yourself in five years?


R. With a beautiful family, doing my specialization, receiving a
promotion in this company in recognition of my excellent work.

7. What's your dream job?


R. My dream job is one that allows me to do things in the shortest
possible time. That is to say, the Japanese model is totally striking
because people manage their time, but the hours they really dedicate to
their work are totally productive. This allows me to have the time to do
what I like: travel.

8. What's your management style?


R. I like the organization, the order, and be punctual for deliveries. I like
a committed work team and that is why I try to motivate them
constantly. I try to meet their needs as time for a medical appointment,
for the reunion of the school of the children or to pass a flu at home.

9. How would your boss and co-workers describe you?


R. They would say that I am a good employee, responsible,
collaborative, kind, that I like to treat patients very well, dedicated to
my work and a great companion in the work team.

10. How do you deal with pressure or stressful situations?


R. Breathing up to 10. I try not to get carried away by my feelings and
try to order my thoughts before issuing an answer.
