FOREWORD
PETRONAS Technical Standards (PTS) publications are based on the accumulated knowledge and
experience of PETRONAS technical professionals across PETRONAS OPUs/Divisions/Affiliates
which is supplemented with reference to national and international standards where appropriate
The key objective of PTS is to ensure standard technical practice across PETRONAS OPU’s and to
take advantage of technical and economic benefits of standardization..
Compliance to PTS is compulsory for PETRONAS-operated facilities and Joint Ventures (JVs) where
PETRONAS has more than Fifty Percent (50%) shareholding and/or operational control, and
includes all phases of work activities in the Group. The rights to use PTS can be given to
contractors/subcontractors, manufacturers or any other parties subject to established contractual
agreement
Exemption to the use of PTS can be made with prior consent from authorized PETRONAS Group TA
in accordance to PTS deviation procedure in situations where it may not cover the technical
requirement given the condition or environment at each locality or when there is more stringent
Government or Local Authority Laws.
Contractors or Manufacturers/Suppliers who use PTS are solely responsible for the quality of work
and to ensure the required design and engineering standards are achieved. In the case where
specific requirements are not covered in the PTS it is the responsibility of the Contractor or
Manufacturer/Supplier to propose other proven alternative design and engineering practices to
achieve the same level of integrity. In case of any deviation from PTS It is the responsibility of
Contractor or Manufacturer/Supplier to inform the owner for approval.
Compliance to PTS does not by itself grant immunity from legal obligations. PETRONAS disclaims
any liability of whatsoever nature for any damage (including injury or death) suffered by any
company or person whomsoever as a result of or in connection with the use, application or
implementation of any PTS, combination of PTS or any part thereof. The benefit of this disclaimer
shall inure in all respects to PETRONAS and/or any company affiliated to PETRONAS that may issue
PTS or require the use of PTS.
PETRONAS is the sole copyright holder of PTS and it shall not, without the prior written consent of
PETRONAS, be disclosed by users to any company or person whomsoever and the PTS shall be
used exclusively for the purpose they have been provided to the user. They shall be returned after
use, including any copies which shall only be made by users with the express prior written consent
of PETRONAS. Users shall arrange for PTS to be held in safe custody and PETRONAS may at any
time require information satisfactory to PETRONAS in order to ascertain how users implement this
requirement.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Please be informed that the entire PTS inventory is currently undergoing transformation exercise
from 2013 - 2015 which includes revision to numbering system, format and contents. As part of
this change, the PTS numbering system has been revised to 6-digit numbers and drawings, forms
and requisition to 7 digit numbers. All newly revised PTS will adopt this new numbering system,
and where required make reference to other PTS in its revised numbering to ensure consistency.
Since the PTS inventory is being revised in stages there could be cases where a referenced PTS has
not been revised and may retain in its original number in the AXIS system. In such cases users are
requested to refer to PTS 00.01.01 (PTS Index) for mapping between old and revised PTS numbers
for clarity. For further inquiries, contact PTS administrator at ptshelpdesk@petronas.com.my
