1 Problem statement:

Pollution is the biggest threat to the mankind and other living beings. Now a
days people doesn’t segregate waste (plastics, metals, wet & dry waste) products they
simply put all those products in single plastic bag throw on roadside, that are consumed
by animals and birds after it cause many harmful diseases. Now a days people become
lazy and they don’t put the waste into the dustbin, instead they throw it outside the
dustbin or to the surroundings.

3 Background of the issue:

In India about 60 million tones of waste is being generated every year .10 million
tones of garbage is generated in metropolitan cities. rapid increase in population has led to
improper waste management in metro cities and urban areas which has resulted in spreading of
diseases. The segregation, transport, handling and disposal of waste must be managed properly
to minimize the risk of the public and the environment.an efficient method to dispose the waste
had been designed in our project “Automatic Waste Segregator and Monitoring System”.

4 Projected area of impact:

Water, Livelihood, Health, Environment & Sanitation

5 Target group of the project:

community & individual

6 Impact of the project:

 By this project we can bring awareness and attract the people to put the
waste into the dustbin

 In this project we are able to separate dry and wet waste. Dry waste includes
wood and related product, metals and glass. Wet waste typically refers to
organic waste usually generated by eating establishments and are heavy in
weight due to dampness.

 From this project we can maintain sanitation and healthy environment.

 Separated products easily recyclable.

7 Outcomes of the project and deliverables:

 Segregation protects health, when ragpickers put their hands into the waste to
clean it up, it results in cuts that further leads to infection result in deterioration
of a ragpickers health

 Hence it is our responsibility to help these ragpicker’s by carefully segregating

the waste that is generated in our home.

8 Background or market research (similar products/projects with supporting

documents/links).
Put together the information on the available solutions, processes, feedback, cost etc.
Combine all the learning and analysis of the market study into a tabular form under
the heads
● Patterns (any general trends)

● Conflicts (what they face vs. what they claim)

● Scope for innovation (how might it work better?)

Till here there was no automatic waste segregation, the segregation has to be
done by hand. Separating waste by hand causes many health hazards. To overcome this
problem automatic waste segregation and monitoring can be used. Before this there
were only machine to check whether waste is full or not.

9 Risks and challenges:

 Sensors are not available in affordable price.

 Our challenge is to provide this product to each and every single house.
10 Approach / process:

In this process first person has to show the unique id to the bin if the id matches the bin
will open and that time it will send 5 credit points to that person, if the credit points reaches 100
he can get rewards. Now the bin will open, the wastes are put into waste collector and that
collected waste material next go to rotor which is rotated using stepper motor. The waste next
rotate on rotor , when the waste come in contact with metal senor it checks whether the waste is
metal or not ,if it is metal then it will be collected in metal waste collector otherwise it will
rotate to next sensor that is moisture sensor to check it is wet waste or not, if it is wet then it will
be collected in wet waste collector, if it is not wet then it further rotate and go to capacitive
proximity sensor to check whether the waste is plastic or not ,if it is plastic then it will be
collected in plastic waste collector if not then it will be consider as the dry waste and it is
collected in dry waste collector .After collecting the waste, to monitored whether the collector is
full by using weight sensor and that will be displayed in the LCD screen that waste collector is
full or not

14 SWOT analysis of the project idea or status or problem statement:

Strength
 Regular waste collection and separation
 Establishment of waste buying centers
 Establishment of recycling centers
Weakness
 Low management of waste dumping
 Failure in sludge fertilizer production
Opportunities
 Introducing five bins for waste separation
 Obtaining external supports from government and industrial association
Threats
 Inadequate attention to promote research on environmental safe guard

17 Sustainability analysis of the solution:
● Social
● Environmental
18 Exit strategies:
● Describe any challenges you think you need to overcome
throughout the concept and development process:
Our main challenge is to separate plastic from paper and our
development to overcome this problem is by passing UV/IR light ray is
passed to it, if the material is plastic then light ray will be reflected back to
the UV/IR receiver otherwise it will not
