My Book of Tenths

Hello Friends,

“My Book of Tenths” is a 12-page cut and paste mini-book for decimals. It includes a page
for each of the decimal tenths from 0.1 to 1.0. The following concepts are represented for
each decimal: word name form, fraction form, decimal form, an illustration, placement on a
number line, and inequality statements. These concepts correspond to the Common Core
Standards 4.NF.C.6 and 4.NF.C.7.

1) It’s easy to make the 12-page mini-book! Just print the pages double-sided, fold in half,
and staple in two places. (Read the “Notes About Printing” shown below.)

2) Students will use the included cut and paste page to color a decimal tenth diagram for
each decimal and paste it on the appropriate page of the book. You may select the page with
all square tenths grids or the page that includes different shapes of tenths grids. (They are
labeled “Choice A” and “Choice B”.)

3) The word names, fraction forms, and decimal forms may be completed by hand or by using
the included cut and paste page (teacher’s choice).

4) The bottom of each decimal page must be completed by hand. It requires placing the
decimal on a number line and completing two inequality statements.

Notes About Printing:

a) In order to make the mini-book pages print correctly, every other page of the book file is
turned 180°. It is designed to work on either a photo copy machine or a duplexing printer.
However, I strongly encourage you to print one as a sample and be sure it is printing
correctly before you print enough for your entire class!

b) Print the two cut and paste pages separately (one is required and one is optional). Each
student will require a decimal diagram page. The half-page with word names, fractions, and
decimals is optional. You may choose to have your students write these by hand instead of
cutting and pasting them into the book.
