VI. Learning Experiences (5 Es)
A.Bring Me Game.
1. Engage (5 minutes)
Group the class in five groups and give them
pictures of signs and symbols. The teacher will say
the meaning of the signs and symbols and the
students will present the picture in front. The
member of the group who can give the picture first
gets the point.
Teacher: Give me:
1. The No Entry sign

2. The No Pedestrian Crossing
3. The sign for Persons with
Disability
4. The sign for Children’s
Crossing
5. The No Motorcycles sign
After the activity, ask the class and say, “From the activity
we just did, what do you think is our lesson today?”
Possible answer: Road Signs and Symbols
2. Explore (10 minutes) The teacher hands in signs to each group. The signs are
either warning or prohibitive signs. The groups are tasked
to decide if a sign is a warning or prohibitive sign. On a
manila paper, the group will write in what column does a
sign belong. Ten signs are given. These are: No tricycles,
no motorcycles, winding road, landslide prone area,
loading and unloading zone, pedestrian crossing ahead,
school zone, curve, no overtaking, and no trespassing.
Answers are in the IMs.
3. Explain (10 minutes) Publishing of Group Output.
Students will present their group answers during the

exploration phase.
After the presentation, the teacher will ask:
1.What do you mean by “prohibit”?
Answer: Not allowed, to ban, to forbid
2. What do you mean by “warning”?
Answer: To inform in advance of a coming or possible

danger.
3.How do we know if a sign is prohibitive or warning?
Answer: Prohibitive sign has the adjective NO, example,

No Trespassing; while warning signs have the word
Beware or something that warns.
4.What is the purpose of prohibitive and warning signs?
Possible answer: Their purpose is to make everyone safe.
5.How can we make our community safe and secure?
Possible answer: We can make our community safe and

secure if we follow and respect these different signs.
4. Elaborate (10 minutes) Paint Me a Picture.
With the same group, the students will act out situations
given by the teacher. The group with the most appropriate
scene portrayed will get one point. First group to get three
points wins the game.
Scene 1
Pedestrian crossing in front of a school while the flag

ceremony is on going.
Scene 2
An elderly is trying to cross the street to get to the market

but is too weak to go to the pedestrian lane and it happens
that a Grade 7 student is just walking close by.
Scene 3
A family is on a trip. They happen to pass a road sign that

said blind curve and beware of falling objects.
5. Evaluate Writing a letter proposal
Identify the important places in a barangay that you think

need to have signs posted to keep the community safe
and secure. Determine what signs are needed in those
places. Write a letter addressed to the barangay captain
and to the barangay DRRM persons proposing to install
signs and warnings in those crucial places in the
barangay. Include to mention in the letter the hazards you
see and their possible danger to be more convincing.
RUBRICS FOR MAKING THE PROPOSAL
20 points – the letter is correctly written with at least 7

prohibitive and warning signs and the places they should
be placed, hazards and dangers included
15 points – the letter is written (with minor mistakes

observed in the parts of the letter) with at least 5
prohibitive and warning signs and the places they should
be placed, hazards and dangers included.
10 points – the letter is written (with some mistakes in the

parts of the letter) with at least 3 prohibitive and warning
signs and the places they should be placed, hazards and
problems included
VII. Learning Make a list of at least 10 prohibitive and warning signs you
Enablement see from your home to your school. Each sign should be
explained on how you are going to follow or respect them.
