INTERNSHIP WORK EXPERIENCE

As everybody knows that "Knowledge without practice is sterile "In order to give to this idea an
Internship program of 6 weak has been arranged. Internship is an important part for the degree of
M.COM (Hons) so depending upon my Specialization and interest I started my Internship in
Marketing Department of MASTER PLASTIC FILMS (Pvt.) Ltd. It is an important part of

34
Master Plastic Films Ind. (PVT) Ltd

learning during the M.COM, I learnt much out of this internship, Different concepts that I have
only studied in the books so for was there in the actual life. But at the same time I feel that the
theory is totally different from the practical but it was just for a moment and then I realized that
theory is the base of all the practical work in the organization only the difference is the style of
implementation of the organizations.

Supervisor Details
In this company each department is governed by director, so marketing director was the head
of the marketing department. Under director the marketing manager was managing the
marketing department. But first we start working in account & finance department.

In the accounts department one is Chief Accountant name Mr. Arslan Anwar Nadeem who control the
accounts department, one is manager accounts and two assistants who work under the guidance of
Chief Accountant. The Chief accountant in this department is a very cooperative person. He was a very
skilled and knowledgeable person and had a lot of knowledge and experience of Accounting. He
supervised my tasks. He told me about annual reports. He told me about balance sheet, income
statement, and guide me that accounting department is responsible to collect data and prepare financial
statements i.e. retained earning statement or profit and loss account and statement of the change in
financial position.

Department Work Experience:

I did my M.COM in Finance so I decided to do the internship in the Marketing department
because internship only available in Marketing department. Due to this reason I decided to select
the Marketing department of Master PLASTIC FILMS Ltd. I have been working in Marketing
Department of MASTER PLASTIC FILMS Ltd. as an internee for 8 weeks. Although an
Internee is not a permanent employee of the company but can get a lot of knowledge and skills in
this very short period and so did I. I took it as opportunity for me and my career and tried to
acquire as many skills as I could. The management and other staff of my department have been
very cooperative and guided me throughout my internship period. They treated me like the
employee of the company and took my full time to work in the company for me to get used to of
working in an organization. It was for the first time in my life when I felt that there are some
practical and reasonable assignments in front of me and I tried to accomplish each and every task

35
Master Plastic Films Ind. (PVT) Ltd

with full of my responsibilities and capabilities. Because of commerce student, first they send us
to the account & finance department.

Weekly Schedules
During the internship in Master plastic & Ceramic Ltd. Some duties and responsibilities were
assigned to me and I have to complete these tasks with my full attention and responsibilities.
Here I am giving detail of these duties and responsibilities on weekly basis:

1 Weak:

Purchase register:

Purchase register is used to record purchases of the organization. These purchases include local
purchases as well as imported goods. In case of local purchases following information is
recorded in the “Purchase Register”:

Master Plastic Films Ind. (PVT) Ltd

After working in account & finance department we go to the purchase department for getting
knowledge.

Purchase department worries about getting supplies and materials timely to meet the
requirements of production. Purchase demand is generated from store manager on the basis
of production requirement and stock situation. The copy of purchase demand is moved to
Purchase manager after the approval (signature) of Director. Purchase manager generates a
Purchase order from the Master Software to the concerned party according to predefined
terms and conditions again after the approval of Director (signature). When the purchased items
enter into gate it is first responsibility of gate keeper to record the each and every item into gate
register. They tell us how purchase is made.

1) Demand Requisition
. The demand requisite consist of the

 Normally the purchase order consist of the following attributes

 And other necessary thing if any

3rd Weak: Arrival of Purchase Items & their Treatment

 These provide data for inter-firm comparison. The ratios highlight the factors associated
with successful and unsuccessful firms, also reveal strong and weak firms.
 These help in planning and forecasting these can assist management in its basic functions
of forecasting, planning, coordination and control.
 These help in investment decision in case of investor and lending decision in case of
Bankers etc.

However, the ratios are only indicators, they cannot be taken as final regarding good or bad
financial position of the business other things have also to be seen.

Types of Business Ratios

1. Liquidity ratios
Liquidity ratios determine how much of a firm’s current assets are available to meet
short-term creditors’ claims.

2. Solvency Ratios
Solvency ratios indicate the ability of the business to pay its long term/total debts.

3. Activity ratios
Activity ratios indicate the effectiveness of management towards the utilization of
resources:

 To generate sales
 To manage receivables
 To manage operating cycle
 To manage cash conversion cycle

5.Profitability ratios

the business to generate revenue for business as well as for its owner.

LIQUIDITY ANALYSIS
Liquidity ratios attempt to measure the ability to pay obligations such as current liabilities and
the pool of assets available to cover the obligations. Liquidity is the ability of an asset to be
converted to cash quickly at low cost. Converting an asset to cash occurs in one of two ways.
Sell the asset, hoping it has reasonable liquidity, or in the case of a financial asset, like accounts

paying ability is known as liquidity of a firm.

COMMENTS:

The comparative analysis of MASTER PLASTIC FILMS ability to pay its short term liabilities
indicates that the external liquidity is not good in current year 2019 but the internal liquidity
showed favorable in 2019 as compare to the base year 2018.

The decrease in External liquidity is associated with major decrease in stocks and increase in
Current Liabilities. As the denominator increases the ratio will decline. Absolute Quick Ratio
and defensive interval ratio showed positive results and this is because of an in increase in cash
and decrease in projected expenses in current year with a percentage of 13 and 2 respectively as
compare to the base year. Talking about the standards the whole results is opposite.

Increase in receivables shows that company has more credit sales. Also the account payable is
increased which means that company is using credit purchases and it can be concluded that the
credit policy of the company is not working well. Negative working capital shows that the
business fails to manage its working capital requirements it means that any expansion in the
process of operation will not be met by the company internally. In a nutshell, it is observed that
the liquidity of the company is not good in comparative years. Although both the internal and
external liquidity has decline but there is always a room for improvements.

Company should take steps to enhance sales and should revise its credit policy in order to
improve its liquidity.

SOLVENCY RATIO
These are the ratios that are used to measures the ability of a firm in regard of long term debt
paying ability. In these ratios we consider two main aspects

Solvency

Periodic Original Debt

Interest paying
Paying ability
ability

Ability To Pay The Original Debt

The firms have many kinds of the loans from the banks or other financial institutions which
have some fixed rate of interest and have some time period to return it. When we want to see the
solvency of the company we see that is the company is in the position to repay the original
amount that it has borrowed from the bank or other financial institutions. If the firm is in the
position to repay the original borrowed amount then the company has better solvency. And if the
firm cannot repay its long term debts the company’s solvency decreased and company may
bankrupt.

Periodic Payment Paying Ability:

As the firm get loan from the bank or financial institutions, these loans has some interest
which is charged every year at a fixed rate. So the firm must have to pay this interest amount
regularly. This interest amount is paid from the earnings. So if the firm’s earnings are very low it

49
Master Plastic Films Ind. (PVT) Ltd

cannot meet the financial charges. So these are also considered in the solvency of the firm. If
firm can easily pay these financial charges it has good solvency. If the firm cannot repay the
interest amount regularly the solvency of the firm is doubtful.

Comments:

The solvency analysis provides the information in both perspective, paying ability of the
company of interest amounts as well as the company’s ability to pay the original debt. The
comparative analysis of the Master PLASTIC FILMS shows that the company is not able to meet

51
Master Plastic Films Ind. (PVT) Ltd

its long term debts, as most of the indicators calculated showed unfavorable results in current
year 2019.

The company’s unfavorable conditions are caused by major increase in interest payments as well
as total and long term liabilities. The operating profit in current year is also decreased caused
unfavorable solvency of the company.

The company is not only suffering to pay its long term debt but its periodic period paying ability
is also not up to the mark as compare to the base year. It means that the interest paid by the
company is a big financial risk for the company.

The capital structure of the company indicates that it has more dominantly debt oriented
company. The debt is the cheapest source of fund raising but in economies like Pakistahigh
inflation is observed and interest rates are charged at higher rates in order to control the inflation,
the cost of debt is so high. Therefore, it is not as much feasible as in other developed economies.
The capital structure of Master Plastic films consist of 54% debts and 46% equity. Though on
one side, due to the lesser equity, less dividends are required to paid but on other hand the high
interest rates are charged.

This indicates that company is already utilizing more debts in current year. The long term debts
of the company are also higher in current year in comparison with base year. Therefore, the
analysis recommended that the company is not in a position to take additional long term debts.

COMMENTS:

56
Master Plastic Films Ind. (PVT) Ltd

The effectiveness of management towards the utilization of resources is unfavorable in current

year as compare to the base year as majority of the indicators calculated have shown unfavorable
results.

The negative activity of Master PLASTIC FILMS (PVT) Ltd. is majorly because of decrease in
sales and increase in cost of goods sold with 0.8%. Although this increase is looking minor but
affects the activity inversely. This is also because of increase in payables, purchases, trade
debtors and total assets with 35%, 1%, 3.70% and 14.66% respectively.

Turnover Analysis: The turnover analysis of the company is unfavorable which means
utilization of assets is not optimal. Although some of the assets (trade debtors & total assets) has
increased. Yet management is not able to potentially use its assets.

Collection System: The comparison of collection system in comparative year indicates that
the company is not managing its collections earlier than its payments. In base year company
takes 112days to collect its receivables but in current year it takes 117days, indicating the gap is
increasing. But the payment period showed positive results which means that the gap between
two collection systems is getting positive.

Operating Cycle: One of the activity indicator is operational cycle of the company, which
shows that it is even increasing in current year, the slower collections and slower sales both are
contributing towards the slower operating cycle. The increase in collection period may cause the
more bad debts whereas, the slower sale of inventory may cause high carrying cost and more
chances of obsoleteness.

Cash Conversion Cycle: The cash conversion cycle of the company is also slower which
requires more idle cash to manage the payments in time as depicted in the company’s balance
sheet. In a nutshell, the management of the company is not performing well for all the aspects of
the Activity.

making the value of his shares high.
Brand

in sanitary fittings and tiles industry. The company have many competitors like Sonex is
the biggest competitor of Master plastic. But now the Master plastic become a very
populous.
Dealings

 The company deals in all sorts of sanitary fittings and tiles, like Both room accessories,
glittering and mat tiles and kitchen utensils. And the company have all rages and all sizes
of the products.

Achievements
 Continuous achievement in international market. As I already discussed that now the
company is exporting his products in many countries like Bangla Dash, Saudia and many
other countries.
 Master is exporting its products to various regions across the globe mainly markets like
Dubai, Middle East and Asia.
Loyal Employees
 The loyal employees are very important for the every company. The company is having a
number of old employees who are committed and loyal with the company. Which is the
biggest strength of the company.

 Master retains its employees by offering benefits like old age benefits, disability benefits,
disease benefits, medical facilities in the company hospital and advance pay etc.

Strength:
 Master plastic is a company which is standing in the market from so long which
assures that it has a strong financial position. The profitability of the organization
is increasing day by day with increase in sales.
 Master plastic has highly professional and skilled foreign consultants who are
providing their best services for many years.
 Higher production capacity than any other competitor in the local market is also
strength point of Master plastic.

61
Master Plastic Films Ind. (PVT) Ltd

 Master plastic has achieved the reputation as one of the best growing information
technology with latest technological automated plants which are highly
computerized.
 Master plastic has its own Research & Development which keeps the
management updated with new opportunities to improve quality and bringing new
innovations.
 Creating vast range of designs and colors with best quality and distribution in all
over the Pakistan is one of the major strengths of Master plastic.
 Quality of the product.
 Highly skilled and loyal labor.

Weakness:
 Excessive working load on the employees for the high production results is a
weakness of Master plastic because workload on employees decreases their
abilities to do efficient work. There is a need of more recruitment to divide the
work and to lessen the load on employees, otherwise efficiency of the existing
employees reduces and production slows down.
 Master plastic has network of communication channel attached to all departments
and all other dealers to communicate but all of the management do not get
attached with the communication channels properly, or the worst happens due to
the unavailability of internet connections, which detaches all departments from
each other and this creates problem of communication which is a weakness by the
organization, in my point of view.

Opportunities:
 Fast growing construction rate and interest of making the buildings beautiful, is
one of the major opportunities for Master plastic as they are dealing to cover such
aspects. Master plastic can plan to increase their production capacity as they see
the future demand increasing and more production leads to more sales and these
results in more profitable business.

62
Master Plastic Films Ind. (PVT) Ltd

 Master plastic has opportunity in the way of its foreign competitors as

Government of Pakistan has imposed anti-dumping duties on the foreign tiles
which is restricting those manufacturers to sell tiles at low prices. Master plastic
has opportunity in this regard that same quality tiles with more attractive designs
reliability can be sold out at lower prices than foreign tiles manufactures and
which increase the revenue for the Master plastic.
 The Government is concerned to grow the economy of Pakistan with export
business as demand is increasing in foreign market which provides an opportunity
to Master plastic to increase its sales by the exporting its tiles
 One of the biggest opportunities to produce more tiles on lower cost is due to the
availability of clay in Pakistan which is required to produce tiles. Pakistan has a
huge stock of clay best suitable for tiles making, so Master plastic can take
advantage from this opportunity by increasing the production at lower cost.

Threat:
 One of the major threats for Master plastic is new entries in the industry.
Ceramics industry is growing very potentially so it is becoming attraction
business for new entrants which is a threat to loss the shares in the market. New
entrants can capture the shares in the market.
 The government policies are one of the major threats for the Master plastic.
Increasing interest rate for loans, corruption in the system is the biggest threat for
the development and promotion of its services.
 Price wars by the competitors in the industry are a huge threat to the Master
plastic as lower prices can attract the customers even there is a bit compromise on
the quality of product.
 Master plastic provide best quality in its products and to meet that standard which
it claims; Master plastic is facing the high expenditure cost of production. Like
international projects, training program for the skilled staff, etc.

Four Ps analyses also called marketing mix. The marketing mix is a business tool used in
marketing and by marketers. The marketing mix is often crucial when determining a product or
brand's offer, and is often associated with the four Ps: price, product, promotion, and place.

Product

A product is seen as an item that satisfies what a consumer demands. It is a tangible good
or an intangible service. Tangible products are those that have an independent physical existence.
Typical examples of mass-produced, tangible objects are the motor car and the disposable razor.
A less obvious but ubiquitous mass-produced service is a computer operating system.

There are 2 types of product

 Tangible
A physical item that can be perceived by the sense of touch. Examples of a
tangible product include cars, food items, computers, telephones, etc.
Many businesses also need to provide packaging for a tangible product to
provide protection during its transportation to a retail location.

 Intangible
A product can be classified as tangible or intangible. A tangible product is a
physical object that can be perceived by touch such as a building, vehicle, or gadget.
Most goods are tangible products. For example, a soccer ball is a tangible product.
Price

The amount a customer pays for the product. The price is very important as it determines
the company's profit and hence, survival. Adjusting the price has a profound impact on the
marketing strategy and, depending on the price elasticity of the product, often it will affect
the demand and sales as well. The marketer should set a price that complements the other
elements of the marketing mix.

There are 2 strategies of setting price.

Cost based pricing

Cost based pricing is the easiest way to calculate what a product should be
priced at. This appears in two forms: full cost pricing and direct-cost pricing. Full cost
pricing takes into consideration both variable, fixed costs and a % markup. Direct-cost pricing is
variable costs plus a % markup.

Value based pricing

Value-based pricing (also value optimized pricing) is a pricing strategy
which sets prices primarily, but not exclusively, on the value, perceived or estimated, to the
customer rather than on the cost of the product or historical prices.

Place
In the marketing mix, the process of moving products from the producer to the
intended user is called place. In other words, it is how your product is bought and where
it is bought. This movement could be through a combination of intermediaries such as
distributors, wholesalers and retailers.

Types of Distribution Channels

Direct

In this channel, the manufacturer directly provides the product to the consumer. In this
instance, the business may own all elements of its distribution channel or sell through a specific
retail location. Internet sales and one on one meeting are also ways to sell directly to the
consumer. One benefit of this method is that the company has complete control over the product,
its image at all stages and the user experience.

Indirect

In this channel, a company will use an intermediary to sell a product to the consumer.
The company may sell to a wholesaler who further distributes to retail outlets. This may raise
product costs since each intermediary will get their percentage of the profits. This channel may
become necessary for large producers who sell through hundreds of small retailers.

Promotion

Promotion refers to raising customer awareness of a product or brand, generating

sales, and creating brand loyalty. It is one of the four basic elements of the market mix, which
includes the four P's: price, product, promotion, and place.

1) Advertising is the paid presentation and promotion of ideas, goods, or services by an

identified sponsor in a mass medium. Examples include print ads, radio, television,
billboard, direct mail, brochures and catalogs, signs, in-store displays, posters, mobile
apps, motion pictures, web pages, banner ads, emails.
2) Personal selling is the process of helping and persuading one or more prospects to
purchase a good or service or to act on any idea through the use of an oral presentation,
often in a face-to-face manner or by telephone. Examples include sales presentations,
sales meetings, sales training and incentive programs for intermediary salespeople,
samples, and telemarketing.
3) Sales Promotion is media and non-media marketing communication used for a pre-
determined limited time to increase consumer demand, stimulate market demand or
improve product availability. Examples include coupons, sweepstakes, contests, product
samples, rebates, tie-ins, self-liquidating premiums, trade shows, trade-ins, and
exhibitions.
4) Public relations or publicity is information about a firm's products and services carried
by a third party in an indirect way. This includes free publicity as well as paid efforts to
stimulate discussion and interest. It can be accomplished by planting a significant news
story indirectly in the media, or presenting it favorably through press releases orcorporate
anniversary parties. Examples include newspaper and magazine articles, TVs and radio
presentations, charitable contributions, speeches, issue advertising, seminars.
5) Direct Marketing is a channel-agnostic form of advertising that allows businesses and
nonprofits to communicate directly to the customer, with methods such as mobile
messaging, email, interactive consumer websites, online display ads, fliers, catalog
distribution, promotional letters, and outdoor advertising.

suggest hiring few technical engineers from the foreign country who are
well aware of the technology used in the machinery. This will help in
saving time of maintenance and also production process will be back in
flow shortly.
