3 Idiots Reflection
The movie entitled “The 3 Idiots” is an Indian comedic film about the story of
three best friends; Farhan, Raju and “Rancho”. The three best friends met at the
prestigious Imperial College of Engineering (ICE) to start their college education, the
three of them coincidentally becomes roommates with each forming a bond of friendship.
While Farhan is the dutiful son of his family, who constantly tries to appease his father’s
wish to become an engineer rather than fulfilling his own passion in photography.
Meanwhile, Raju is the religious and faithful son to his family who take u the course of
engineering to overcome his family’s poverty. Lastly, “Rancho” is the only one out of the
three who genuinely is interested in science and engineering, who believes that learning
should be carefree and not a competition to be the best and top 1.
In today’s society choosing the path we want to take in the future is one of the
most toughest things to decide. In Farhan’s situation, our parents want the best life for us
the moment when we were born in this world, but sometimes their wishes and dreams for
you t achieve can get in the way of what you truly want in life and it leaves you stuck in
between on what choice to choose. In Raju’s situation, as the child of our parents we are
grateful to them for all the things that they have sacrificed and given for us to succeed in
life, and we want to give back those blessings when we have a financially stable job so
that they won’t have to work hard as much, but in focusing so much on that aspect
wenforget on how to have a little fun in our lives that it sometimes it could affect our
mentality as a human being. Lastly in “Rancho’s” case, he was a person who believed
that learning should be a place of genuine interest and not a battleground to see who
comes up on top, he might have been blunt and carefree on how he lived out his life and
o some it may seem troublesome but he also had a best interest at heart for the people
around him and helped them as much as he can. For me, I realized that doing something I
love and passionate about makes me happy even if I’m not as successful as others.
The school’s director Sir Viru or as “Virus” as they call him was a competitive and
strict man who believes that life is a competition. In the movie the three friends also had
a classmate named Chatur, an arrogant classmate of theirs who is also obsessed in being
on top of their class. Throughout the movie they also meet Joy a fellow schoolmate of
theirs who committed suicide due to school pressure by Professor Viru. Rancho also
meets Pia, the youngest daughter of Professor Viru, in which Rancho helps Pia call off
her engagement to a boastful and wealthy man who is just in love with Pia’s reputation
and intelligence rather than her personality and shows her true self. Towards the end of
the movie it was revealed that “Rancho” was not the real one he was just pretending to
be the real Rancho because the real Rancho was not as smart as him, his name was
“Chhote” and was the son of a gardener. Five years after college, Farhan is now a
wildlife photographer, Raju is marriend and works a corporate job, Chatur is a vice
president of a company in the US, while “Rancho” is still now where to be found. The
three of them and Pia found him in a seclusive tow that is full of his invention, he also
became a teacher there. They found out that he is Phunsukh Wangdu, a world-renowned
scientist and businessman. Chatur lost their bet of becoming who will be the least
successful person and the three friends all run away laughing.
I learned throughout the movie was that school is not a pressure cooker, learning
should all about be fun and exciting to learn new things and not compete with one
another, instead we should help each other out if we struggle through it.
