HACKSAW BLADE

The hacksaw blade is a fine tooth saw used for cutting metals, most often mild steel,

aluminum and copper, because of its high wear resistance due to red hot temperature that

develops due to friction while cutting, this saw can be used in high speed cutting application.

Handheld hacksaws consist a frame and screws to put the blade in tension, the same as the

power hacksaw which has also a frame and screw to put the blade in tension. Hacksaw blades

are determined by its TPI or “tooth per inch” in which it is used to specific application. The

blade teeth are hardened while the other parts is leave to be flexible while some make the

entire blade hard. Hacksaw material is called High Speed Steel (HSS or HS) which is

composed of molybdenum or tungsten . This alloying compounds provides the wear

resistance of the blade.(Patel et. al.,2013)

SPEED REDUCTION

Engines and electric motors produce high angular speed which can be more than of what is

needed. To decrease the speed while making the horsepower constant, belt drive is used, or

for some application is a gear drive. Speed reducer is a type of gear drive that is used to

reduce angular speed. Speed reducing is a way to obtain a desirable output speed from a high

angular speed input, while power is remains constant.
