CONTENT STANDARDS: The learners demonstrate an understanding of organisms interacting

with each other and with their environment to survive.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: The learners should be able to conduct a collaborative action
to preserve the ecosystem in the locality.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES: Differentiate biotic from abiotic components of an ecosystem.
Describe the difference ecological relationship found in the ecosystem
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 60-minutes discussions, the students should be:
a. Enumerate the five ecological relationships
b. Define each ecological relationship
c. Appreciate the importance of ecological relationship through participating in the
discussion.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Ecological relationships

Let us pray first (the students raise their hands to

Who wants to lead the prayer? volunteer)

Yes RM. Come here in front and lead the prayer Classmates are you ready to

Good morning class!

Before you take your seats please pick up the piece of trash
under your chair.

Your attendance will be based on your quiz later.

Review
Class who among you still remember our previous lesson.
(students raise their hands)
Yes, Taehyung can you tell us about our previous lesson
Ma’am our previous lesson is
all about biotic factors and
Very good abiotic factors

What is the difference between biotic and abiotic factors?

Anyone? (Students raise their hands)

Yes Jungkook?
Ma’am the biotic factors are the
living components of an
ecosystem while the abiotic
factors are the nonliving
Very good! components of an ecosystem.

Anyone who can give me an example of biotic factors

(the students raised their hands
Yes Jimin? to volunteer)

Ma’am the examples of biotic

factors are plants, animals,
fungi and protists.

That’s correct!

How about the examples of abiotic factors? (the students raise their hands to
volunteer)
Yes Suga?
Ma’am the examples of abiotic
factors are water, soil,
temperature and wind
Very good! For all those who answer the questions
Please give them a round of applause. (a round of applause…)

A. Elicit
The students will be given questions to answers:

 When you are at home, how do you and your

siblings do the different house chores? (the students raise their hands to
volunteer)
Yes Jin?
Ma’am we disseminate chores
according to our capability or
do the things we can already do.
For instance, I wash the dishes,
my younger brother sweeping
the floor and my older brother
watering the plants. The rest we
do it together.

Thank you for your answer!

 When you are in school, in what ways do you

interact with your classmates and teachers?
(the students raise their hands to
Who wants to answer? volunteer)

Yes JK? Ma’am I recite and ask

questions to my teacher and I
play with my classmates.

Thank you for your answer!

 How do you take care of your pet?

Anyone?
Yes Taehyung?

(the students raise their hands)

Ma’am, we give them food
Okay, thank you for your answer! everyday and we make sure
they have clean water to drink.
Also, we give them a bath once
a week.

you see in this puzzle?

Please come here in front and circle the words that you see.
Students answer will be:
- Mutualism
- Commensalism
- Parasitism
- Competition
- Predation

C. DISCUSSION

We have found the words Mutualism, Commensalism,

Parasitism, Competition, and Predation which are the kinds
of Ecological Relationships.

Today we will know more about these relationships.

Are you ready?

I will show you the pictures in the ecosystem.

(The teacher shows the picture)

Based on the pictures, what do you think is Ecological

Ecological Relationship is the
Relationship?
relationship between organism
in an ecosystem.

The bee sips nectar from the

flower.

Mutualism
Ma’am as the bee sips nectar, it

transfers pollen from flower to
flower to help each reproduce.
That’s correct!
The bee obtains food and the

picture?

That’s right! This kind of ecological relationship is

Mutualism.

Mutualism is a relationship in which two organisms live

together, depend on, benefit from each other.

How does this picture show interaction?

(the students raise their hands)
Ma’am the remora attaches
itself to the shark’s body.

That’s correct!

(The teacher shows a picture)

Ma’am the remora gets a free
ride and feeds on scrap of food
left over by the shark. However,
the shark is not affected by the
remora.
What can you see in the picture?

(the students raised their hands

to volunteer)
That’s correct!
This kind of relationship in which one organism benefits
while the other is not affected is called Commensalism.

How this picture shows interaction?

Ma’am the mosquito is sucking

blood.
Very good!
Ma’am Parasitism.
(the teacher shows a picture)

Parasite, Ma’am.
What can you see in the picture?
Host, Ma’am

What do you think is this ecological relationship? The parasite is the mosquito
and the host are human.
Very good! This kind of relationship is parasitism in which
benefits one organism and harms the other. But not always
killed.

What do you call an organism depends on the other

organism?

Very good! Ma’am the tiger is eating a

spotted deer.
How about the other organism that is harmed?

That’s correct! In this picture, which do you think is a

parasite? Host?

Very good!

Look at this picture.

What can you see in this picture?

Predation, Ma’am

Prey, Ma’am.

Predator, Ma’am.

Very good!

What kind of ecological relationship that shows in the

picture?

That’s right!
Predation is when an organism eats another organism.

What do you call an organism that is eaten by another

organism?

That’s correct! How about the organism that eats the prey?

I have more pictures about Predation.

Ma’am they form societies to

protect one another from
predators.
Ma’am the two squirrels are
fighting for the food.

Which of the animals shown are predators?

Which of the animals shown are preys?

Competition!
Why do you think some species of animals form societies?

Exactly!

Look at this picture. What can you see in the picture?

That’s right!
What kind of this ecological relationship shows in the
picture?
Ma’am there will be ecological
That’s correct! Competition is when organism compete for imbalance.
the same resource.

I have more pictures here. Ma’am humans interaction in

the ecosystem causes harm to
other organisms or both sides
benefits to each other.

What will happen if there are no ecological relationships?

How can we correlate/connect this interaction into our real-
life situations?

Do you have any questions?

Did you understand the lesson?

D. EVALUATION
On ¼ sheet of paper. Answer the following. Identify the
type of relationship or interaction which exists between
the given organisms. This will serve as your attendance
for today.

1. Birds nesting on top of trees- commensalism

2. Mosquito bit human for blood- Parasitism
3. Flea that thrives on a dog- parasitism
4. Cat eating a mouse- predation
5. Two birds fighting for a food
6. Insect larva and leaf of a plant- parasitism
7. Bees sucking up the nectar in a flower- mutualism
8. A snake kills and eats a rat- predation
9. A barnacle attaches itself to a whale- commensalism
10.
