Dear readers,

It gives us immense pleasure in bringing to you yet another edition of Charisma. As we

impart education in tune with technological advancement and globalisation our students
march ahead with the sound foundation of our rich Indian culture. We pride ourselves in
nurturing and developing our students into sensitive and responsible citizens of the future.

Our Founder Chairman Late Colonel P S Satsangi, VSM would say "Learning is lifelong and
it never goes waste, A child has to be taught at his pleasure not at his peril." How true! We
firmly believe that every child is a unique and beautiful God's creation. Thus, we at CSKM
Public School impart both knowledge and learning experiences to students and empower
them holistically for a bright future. We work on implementing a well balanced curriculum
to ensure that the children who walk into the portal of our school will not just love the
school years but truly become rough and tough to face life's challenges.

'Charisma' is a milestone that marks our growth, unfolds our imagination and gives life to
our thoughts and aspirations. On one hand it unleashes a wide spectrum of creative skills
while on the other hand it serves as an yearbook for the students, teachers, parents and
all who are associated with it.

We have for you a wide range of poetry, riddles, paintings, stories, amazing facts and some
other informative and inspirational articles. We, the editorial team, enjoyed the journey
of compiling this magazine as much as the students enjoyed in contributing their articles.

The editorial team owes its gratitude to the Principal, Dr (Mrs) Shakuntla S Jaiman for her

Chairman's Blessings

W
ish you all a very happy New Year, Makar Sankranti, Lohri, Pongal,
Bihu and Republic Day. Ours is a truly amazing country with
unity in diversity. We at CSKM are also somewhat similar, with
students from different regions, different faiths, different languages all
living and studying together. All teachers, other staff and students live and
work in harmony.

I pray to God to bless the wonderful CSKM family and give us strength to
continue doing good work, help each other achieve greater heights. I urge
everyone to be diligent, honest and positive in our everyday life.

In this era of mobiles, dish TV and internet we all need moments of

tranquility. Due to the fast paced digital age lots of mental health issues are
coming up even in school children.

Spiritual pursuit helps us to calm our mind and keep our mental balance.

We, Indians have a very rich heritage and culture that has many varied
spiritual traditions. I would urge the young minds to read about them and
see which method appeals to you.

Adopting spirituality in daily life can help us in all aspects of our life
including studies. I request all students to please give it a try and make it
their new year resolution. I wish you a productive and peaceful year ahead.

Principal's Musings

L
ife seems to have come a full circle. Having been there and having done that,
one realises that the Basics are important in all facets of human development.
The wisdom of the ages has been questioned time and again. The swiftly
changing times lead us to contend with a lot of newness and we adapt to it.

Certain cultures value individualism over collectivism, extroversion over

introversion, rough edges over roundedness, noise over quiet and stillness,
complexity over simplicity and empathy over understanding. The eternal truths
and values hold us in good stead regardless of all new ideas and theories evolving
over time as we adapt to the changes, the context has to be understood.

Having been a perceptive, analytical person, as I view my life and career in

flashback, I find that the people who outshine others are those who practise the
most humanistic values and live simply even while following lofty ideals.

At the end of the day it does not matter what we possess or what status we gained
but how much we give of ourselves. At CSKM I wish every individual student and
teacher to live upto these principles…

…and when I retrace the foot prints of our alumni as they traverse their paths, I am
humbled by mighty pride that I experience in CSKM’s contribution to humanity.

Dear all

My thoughts here are my perceptions of all I have

listened to, absorbed, observed, studied, understood and
imbibed. My message to everyone including myself is to
genuinely strive to be 'true to oneself'. Sounds cliché,
right. But we know it and many a times we forget or
simply do not bother to be ourselves as it may be more
convenient to get by otherwise. We modify our thoughts,
words, actions and behaviours according to a given
situation or people. Social etiquette and protocol is fine
but the question is - 'Am I myself - perfect and divine the
way I am and supposed to be?'. Of course, each one of
us at one's own pace has to work on cleansing the layers
and discovering our real self which is peaceful, powerful,
loving and giving - actually 'anandswaroop'.

Let us strive to take out some time daily to talk to our

This year has been a season of celebrations for CSKM family.

SUNIL MANSINGH, alumnus of 1988 was felicitated by Her

Excellency Mrs. Baby Rani Maurya, Governor of Uttarakhand
for Excellence in photography. Mr Sunil Mansingh was
conferred the Uttarakhand Utkarsh Samman Award by the
Kadam Foundation. The Honour was bestowed at a glittering a
ceremony at Haridwar.
The Times of India Group organised the Brand Icons of Kumaon
2019 event at the Aahana Corbett resort to celebrate the
spirit of excellence and recognise men and women who have
restructured the definition of entrepreneurship. The highlight

A Fresher’s party is organized to make every new student feel
connected as an integral part of the CSKM family and to be ready
to take on all challenges of the year ahead. The newly appointed
leaders organised Freshers' Night with great fervour and gaiety. The

A Solo Dance Competition in Pre Primary wing was
organized with the aim of honing the dancing skills of
the young talented CHARISMAS. Children were thrilled
to be a part of colorful, vibrant and energizing event.
Hands, feet and bodies, dressed in colorful costumes,
twirled, flipped and swayed in rhythem on the stage.
Different kinds of dance forms: western, contemporary,
hip-hop, classical etc. were performed by the tiny tots.
Interesting props like hats, chairs and sticks added to the
performance of the children. The choreography, rhythm,
synchronization and presentation of all the students were
par excellence. Their dance performances of various
regions depicted Indian unity in diversity, especially the
Bihu dance. The children rocked the stage with their spell
binding performances. There was thunderous applause
which made the competitions extremely tough.

heartfelt tribute full of gratitude and appreciation to their
teachers. It was indeed endearing to see the students

effectively which were assigned to them by their subject
teachers. They excelled in their efforts. The School
Principal, Dr (Mrs) S S Jaiman organised an Orientation
Programme for the teachers on "Healing Self". The
resource person was Shilpa ji from the Brahmkumaris.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the
ceremonial lamp by Ma’am Principal and the guest
speaker. In the workshop, Sister Shilpa ji helped the
teachers heal themselves by enabling them to connect To empower the teachers with self-healing she explained

SCIENNOVATIONS. They surprised one and all
by presenting a variety of exciting experimental

chart making, power point presentations, speeches, one
act plays etc. It was a great learning experience.

Spic Macay Paper Mache Workshop

In order to develop creative skills and enlighten
the minds towards aesthetics of the students, we
organised 'Paper Mache' workshop under the aegis
of Spic Macay. The mentor for the workshop was Ms
Jyoti Karan. She taught the students the eco-friendly
ancient craft of Bihar known as 'Paper Mache'. The
craft objects were made by mixing paper pulp from
old newspapers and waste paper with multani mitti,
methi powder and adhesive made from water and
wheat flour. After creating the mould of the object
more pulp was added to give the right shape. The
objects were polished. When completely dry, the
objects were coloured. The students used motifs
to decorate the toys and dolls in Madhubani style
of painting. Students were highly enthusiastic and
engrossed in the activity. The Principal, Dr (Mrs) S.
S. Jaiman appreciated the efforts made by both the
students and the mentors. Overall it was a great
experience and a skill learnt for life.

was organized. A spirit of unity
and dynamism filled the air. The

with the lighting of the auspicious
lamp of learning and wisdom. We

Chief Guest on the occasion.

to bring in many more laurels to the
institution. It was a proud moment
for all to witness the students being
invested with great responsibilities
while embarking on a new journey
as leaders.

Celebrations and Merry Making
As part of our efforts to inculcate in students Easter, Grandparents' Day, Raksha Bandhan,
the appreciation of and respect for India's Gokulashtami, Ganapathi Pooja and Visarjan,
rich heritage and diversity, and also to Teachers' Day, Dussehra, Diwali, Eid, Christmas

Patriotic Fervour at CSKM
The three major national festivals Independence Day,
Gandhi Jayanti & Republic day were celebrated with a lot
of enthusiasm and enjoyment. These national festivals
which bind the whole country together with unparalleled
feeling of patriotism and gratitude to the Father of the
Nation Mahatma Gandhi, filled the children and staff
alike with a tremendous feeling of national pride and
love for the nation.

NCC Training
To strengthen values of discipline, duty, punctuality
and self confidence a group of seventeen boy cadets
from school under the able guidance and supervision
of the Third Officer, Mr Sandeep Pathak, participated
in Combined Annual Training Camp at NCC Group
Headquarter, Safdarjung Enclave. Various activities
and competitions were carried out during the 10 day
programme.

Training and lectures on various topics like Yoga, self

defence, drill and shooting were also conducted.
The events provided new experiences and exposed
the students to the regimental way of life. Training
Certificates were also given to the cadets.

Run for Unity

Enthusiastic Charismas took part in 'Run for Unity' marathon, which was organised to
mark the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. With the loud cheers of
'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' the students ran enthusiastically. Being part of the marathon was their
way of paying respects to Sardar Patel, who unrelentingly worked for a united India.

attitude and skill among youth CSKM Public School
celebrated its 33rd Annual Sports Day. We were honoured
to have Shri Shubham, Common Wealth Games Silver
Medalist Awardee, as the Chief Guest and Mr Harilal,
National Player, DIG, BSF to preside over the function.

The fantastic turnout of the parents and the pleasant

weather were the perfect setting for the students on the
day. The programme started by paying homage to our
Founders Col P S Satsangi VSM and ma’am Kiran Satsangi
by lighting the ceremonial lamp .The Chief Guest and the
Principal hoisted the school flag and inspected the Guard
of Honour followed by an impressive March Past by the
school students. The sports meet was declared open by the
distinguished Guests and the school Principal which was
followed by the Sports Pledge led by the Sports captains.
Once the races began the air was filled with cheer and
excitement for the young athletes. It was fun to see tiny
tots performing activities like lemon and spoon race, dash

race, hurdle race, obstacle and monkey race. Students
showcased team sprit and will-power in sports activities.

The last event was Inter house March Past Competition

Surya, Krishnan and Merril marched to the drumbeat,
synchronized in steps and spirit. Krishnan House and
Chandragupta House bagged the first and second
positions respectively. Overall Sports Championship
Trophy was won by Krishnan house amid thunderous
applause. The Chief Guest gave away the prizes to the
students who distinguished in different sports. On
the occasion the Chief Guest emphasised that great
aim and hard work are very important to attain the
fruits of success. The Principal, Dr Shakuntla S Jaiman
thanked Shri Shubham for encouraging the students and
presented the school momento as a mark of respect. The
Principal appreciated the active participation and efforts
of the students and teachers.

 Till We Meet Again...
We bade formal goodbye to the students of class XII in a farewell
ceremony. The programme commenced with the lighting of
the lamp of wisdom followed by a formal welcome of class XII
students. Class XI students hosted the ceremony with a lot of
affection and warm feelings. The Principal, Dr (Mrs) S. S. Jaiman
along with teachers blessed the students to be successful in their
forthcoming board exams and encouraged them to scale greater
heights in life and let the fragrance of their successes flow through
the corridors of CSKM. The day was a fiesta devoted to the years
spent together with friends and teachers and to reminisce joyous
moments. Individual experiences of the students about their
schooling in CSKM were very well conceived and presented. A
colourful and entertaining cultural programme enthralled one and
all and received a thunderous applause. S Larneda and Abhidayal
were selected as Miss CSKM and Mr CSKM respectively. After the
cultural programme the entire CSKM family had a sumptuous lunch.
The guests and the hosts danced merrily to their hearts’ content
on peppy songs. Many were seen clicking pictures of friends and
teachers in order to capture the fond memories of school forever.

Story Telling Workshop

Storytelling is a universal and traditional art form

that has featured strongly in Indian culture as
an effective communication tool. It can be used
to inform, entertain and educate. It is often used
as a medium to ingrain values, improving reading
skills and opening the minds of children to worlds
beyond imagination.

A workshop for story-telling was thus organized

for teachers of middle section to help teachers
to improve their own story telling and to assist
their students in the art of story telling. Ms.
Indu Punj was the resource person . The session
was indeed valuable and distinct. The teachers
and students found it really interested and were
engrossed in the story telling of “The king with
big ears” which was told to them with creative
gestures and facial expressions. The appropriate
use of voice modulation and body language
infused passion, enhanced imagination and
expression and introduced all to new horizons of
story telling. It was an interactive session where
teachers were taught the right way of telling the
stories. Overall this session helped the teachers
in creative thinking and enhancing the students’
interest in Story Telling and enhancing their
Listening Skills.

Motivational Workshop on
Merchant Navy
The school organized a workshop on Merchant Navy as
a career opportunity for students of class XII Science
stream and class X. The spokesperson for the day was
a seasoned Capt. Nitin Pathak, (BSc Nautical Science).
The proud Captain has dedicated 22 years of his life
to Merchant Navy. Presently he is contributing his
services to Applied Research Institute.

He made the students aware about merchant navy as

a great career option after class 12th. It is a perfect
career for those who love travelling, adventure and
are interested in seeing new places and meeting
people. The students were made aware of the fact that
merchant navy is commercial fleet of non combatant
ships dealing with transportation of passengers,
cargo, tanker ships, truck carriers, refrigerator ships,
container ships etc. He informed the students about
the eligibility criteria, age limit, medical standards,
eye-sight and medical examination required for joining
Merchant Navy.

The students were told about Pre sea training,

Deck Cadet training, Nautical Sciences and Marine
Engineering. The students were encouraged to
be focused and disciplined. The pride of uniform,
lucrative salaries and adventures in exotic places were
highlighted along with the grit and determination
required for a successful career in Merchant Navy.

In the open ended question session, the students

put forward their queries which were answered by
the spokesperson in detail. The school Principal
Dr (Mrs) S S Jaiman motivated the students to work
and consider Merchant Navy as a career opportunity.

Many students live under the illusion that they would just start studying a few weeks
before the exams and score the desired marks. When the time comes, and you sit to
study, you go blank, you hate it, you can not concentrate, you have useless thoughts,
hate your friends who are studying. So what do you do, well, talk to the ones who
always score well. You worry because they’re going ahead of you and invite stress
because of syllabus is too mcuh to cover. Those, who say they study for one night
and score well, are making a fool of you. There are no tricks, schemes, mind games,
but the mere truth of life that everything comes from perseverance. A fact you’re
going to learn years later.

Let’s be honest here nobody’s born with a natural inclination to study. What we
want to do is play games, have fun with friends, look incredibly good and show off to
everybody. You have to understand, to get better in anything, the one only thing you
need to do is practice. Practice in itself includes hard work, patience and persistence.

So be careful about what you’re doing which you may think is unique and cool, isn’t
it? The problem with most of you is not that you don’t plan or want to study, but
whenever you decide, at the last moment, you do something else. In simple terms,
you have too many distractions around you, lack of concentration and goals setting.

Why do you think people who actually cracked the IIT and IIM shut themselves in
a room, only attract those with similar pursuit, and aren’t really active on social
media? Because one word, prioritizing of priorities are what lead a man to glory and
lack of it to the destruction.

Your parents and teachers are right on this one thing; “You need to plan”. For
planning to happen, it requires detailed analysis- isolation at least partial isolation,
research, self-questioning, self-recognition of goals, utilisation of time, scheduling,
routine, building, scanning the sources of time wastage, the capacity to work, and
the work to be done.

We all want the best for ourselves. But the best often has two different definitions.
They are best for you and for your life. Let’s apply this to you; you actually know
the best things for your life. You already have colleges planned in your mind, the
percentage in high school, XII standard, or college, your GPA in college, companies
you want to get into. At any stage, you know what the best thing for your life is,
but you always sabotage it, destroy it for things that you think are best for you at a
particular moment.

Your expectations are the most accurate and credible assessment of your abilities
done by yourself. So, if you are underperforming, instead of accepting the results as
your standards, learn what the mistakes were, where you lacked, and what you need
to focus on. Boost your confidence. Take one step at a time.

The problem is that most of you have accepted that you are an average student.

and found that my friends were sitting silently by the lakeside and were very
upset. They were also searching for me. After getting tired they sat down and
started throwing stones in the lake. I cried in excitement, ran towards them
and hugged them. I was so relieved and happy that tears started flowing. Then
we all went to our camp site. My friends declared, “We will never leave you
alone as you get lost like a small baby”. Everyone had a great laugh.

Rewarding and Fulfilling Years of
My Life
It was way back in 1987 that I appeared for an interview
for a teaching post in CSKM Public School With tinge of
nervousness, I was face to face with the persona non-
pareil founder Chairman Col. PS Satsangi.

I was fortunate to have been inducted into the CSKM

family as the first day-boarding teacher (1987 -1997) and
subsequently as residential teacher. The long innings
lasted well over three decades (1987 to 2019) I was
hesitant initially as I was the only Tibetan and belonged
to a different cultural mileau. But the welcoming and
inclusive nature of the school authorities, my colleagues
and students made me feel at home and CSKM
became my second home. As much as I would have
loved to continue, I had to quit due to pressing family
commitments, compulsions of personal nature.

The life enriching experiences gained during my long

tenure of service at CSKM have been gainfully rewarding
yet most challenging, in keeping with the school motto the course of their grounding in the school. I can vouch
“Busy Bee Pleasaure”. with certainty that children who pass out of the portals
of CSKM can never fail in life as we focus on making our
students good, successful human beings.

I stress with immense pride and gratification how

meaningful, purposeful and fulfilling 32 years at CSKM
has been. I gained an insight into how engaging it is
to share the interests, hopes and aspirations of the
children who come under one’s care. I would like to
express deeply felt appreciation to the Chairman, the
principal and my colleagues and the service staff for
reposing faith and confidence in me. The unstinted
support and cooperation enabled me making my
endeavours bear fruition.

As a CSKMite for life and in keeping with my self imposed
