Document for Web Hosting at the Server Farm of Government of Gujarat

GOG IT division has established a server farm at Vibhan Sabha Building. This server farm will
host all the websites for GOG departments. Following procedure should be followed for hosting
website/registration/transfer domains.

Web hosting Procedure

· The Department has to fill up the form enclosed for their hosting requirement
and forward it to OSD IT, Department of Science & Technology, 5 th Floor
Block no 7, New Sachivalaya, Gandhinagar – 382010

· IT Department will forward this to the server farm and the web master at the
server farm will allocate the web space, login name and password for
the secured access to the web server as approved by IT department.
Then it will be given to upload/modify the website / data / content.
The authorized person of the department will use this.

· Once the website data is uploaded a mail has to be sent to

webmaster@gujarat.gov.in to carryout necessary work on the server
to start the website.

· On completion of the task at Server Farm basic testing will be done by

webmaster / network team and mail will be replied to the department
person who has initiated the process on receipt of this mail, they will
carryout extensive testing of the website and make it operational.

· Email aliasing will be created and five mail boxes for website will be given like
info@yourdomain.com, contact@yourdomain.com etc

· Incase of any problem you can contact the webmaster or visit the Server farm in
the basement of new Vibhan Sabha complex, Gandhinagar

· The Department has to register a new domain as per the domain registration
procedure or transfer the domain as per the domain transfer
procedure. If the site is to be hosted without a domain then domain
guidelines are to be ignored.

Domain Guidelines

New Domain Registration:

When a website is to be hosted it requires to register a domain with any international domain
registrar. Following process should be carried out
· It is required to specify Administrative contact for the Domain
It is required to specify Technical contact for the Domain
It is required to specify Billing contact for the Domain
It is very important that these three contacts are from the department, and preferably CIO of the
respective department.

Administrative Contact is the key person for managing the domain and the entire domain
registration process is to be done on email hence CIO of the department should give proper
official email address and keep accessing this email address on regular basis.

When domain expires then also email comes to the administrative and billing contacts. In case of
transferable jobs in government it is suggested to create an email like cio@xyzdepartment.com,
hence the next person coming in position can take over this work from the former person. Donot
give personal email address like hotmail and yahoo in official registration.

· One has to specify name server for the Domain. Details are as under:
Normally it takes 24-48 hours for Internet world to recognize the domain
announcement and in some cases it may take some more time.

Primary Server: ns1.gswan.gov.in

Secondary Server: ns2.gswan.gov.in

Already Registered Domains / Website to be transferred to GOG server farm

Department must have registered domain with any domain registrar in the world. The
administrative contact of the domain should send an email to the domain registrar to make a
name server change as under:

Primary Server: ns1.gujarat.gov.in

Secondary Server: ns2.gujarat.gov.in

Now, the domain registrar will confirm the change of domain with the administrative contact by
email and then implement the change in domain. It will start pointing towards GOG server farm
and the website can now be hosted at GOG server farm.

It is also advisable to check weather the administrative, technical and billing contacts are from the
department or from an outside agency. To have control on domain you have to change all three
contacts in the name of CIO of the department.
