Important Notes
The LED Technologies DMX512 decoder will control either 5v, 12v or 24v
LED lighting units up to the maximum rating per channel as detailed above.
Before setting up, you will need a suitable 5v, 12v or 24v Power supply, with a
minimum loading as above.
Important: When controlling LED Flexible tape, please ensure that you do not
daisy chain more than 5m of tape together; otherwise the tape could be
damaged through overheating. If additional lengths are required then an RGB
Amplifier with a separate PSU will be required.
Wiring Instructions
Input Connections (All LED Products)
Connect a suitable power supply to the DC+ & DC- terminals on the DMX
decoder. (We recommend LED Technologies PSU’s for best results).
Connect your DMX512 Desk to one of the DMX input terminals on the DMX
decoder, set the DMX address using the dip switches to the required address
(See DMX settings).
Output Connections (Single Colour LED Products)
For Single Colour LED Tape or other single colour LED products, connect the
“V+” lead from your LED product to the “V+” terminal on the DMX decoder
and the “V-” lead to either of the “CH1”, “CH2” or “CH3” terminals on the
DMX decoder.
Note: As the DMX decoder has three channels, it is possible to control three
single colour products over the three channels. This would enable individual
control over each product using three channels on your DMX desk.
If required, multiple DMX decoders can be daisy chained together using the
DMX link sockets. For convenience, three types of DMX inputs are provided,
3pin XLR, RJ45 and Terminal connections.
Additional DMX decoders can then be either set to the same DMX address to
control multiple devices the same or different addresses for multiple channels
or Zones.
Output Connections (RGB Colour Changing LED Products)
For RGB (three channel) colour changing LED Tape or other RGB colour
changing LED products, connect the “V+” lead from your LED product to the
“V+” terminal on the DMX decoder then connect the “Red Channel” lead to
“CH1”, the “Green Channel” lead to “CH2” and the “Blue Channel” lead to
the “CH3” terminals on the DMX decoder. Individual control over the Red,
Green and Blue colours is then possible using three channels on your DMX
desk.
Operating Instructions
Manual Operation
Once you have connected your LED product to the DMX decoder, it is
possible set a number of colours or a limited number of programs manually
using the dipswitches on the DMX decoder.
Note: Before using the decoders manual functions; first disconnect any DMX
desks or controllers from the decoder.
Manual Dimming
Switch all the dipswitches to the “OFF” position.
Refer to the following table to set the dimming levels for each channel.
Note: 0 = Switch “OFF”, 1 = Switch “ON”.
Example 1: To set Channel 1 to a brightness level of 71%:
Switch 1 = ON, Switch 2 = OFF and switch 3 = ON.
Example 2: To set Channel 1 to a brightness level of 57%, Channel 2 to a
brightness level of 28% and Channel 3 to a brightness level of 14%:
Switch 1 = OFF, Switch 2 = OFF, Switch 3 = ON
Switch 4 = OFF, Switch 5 = ON, Switch 6 = OFF
Switch 7 = ON, Switch 8 = OFF, Switch 9 = OFF

When the Chase of Fade program is selected, the RGB LED Product will
chase or fade through the colours as detailed in Table 1, in sequence.
The speed of the program can be set as in Table 2. Speed 1 being the
slowest and Speed 7, the fastest.

DMX Operation
Single Colour or RGB Colour Changing LED Products
Connect a suitable DMX512 controller or the LED Technologies three channel
Easy Controller to the DMX input socket on the Decoder. Set the required
DMX address as below.
Setting the DMX Address
Refer to the table below to set the DMX address as required.
Dipswitch DMX Values

DMX
001 002 004 008 016 032 064 128 256
Value
By combining the dipswitch values, any DMX address between 001 & 512 can
be set.
Example 1:
To set DMX Address “001”, dipswitch 1 should be set to “ON”, all other
switches set to OFF.
Example 2:
To set DMX Address “005”, dipswitches 1 & 3 should be set to “ON” (so that
the DMX value shown adds up to “5”). All other switches set to OFF.
Example 3:
To set DMX Address “029”, dipswitches 1, 3, 4 & 5 should be set to “ON” (so
that the DMX value shown adds up to “029”). All other switches set to “OFF”.
DMX Protocols
