Introduction
Awiros is a unified Video Intelligence platform developed by Awidit Systems Pvt. Ltd. While
employing state of the art technologies such as Computer Vision and Deep Learning, Awiros
allows its users to extract invaluable information out of their surveillance videos.

Awiros is a lot more than just a suite of Video Intelligence applications. It is an Operating System
that hosts a number of individual applications, such as those for facial recognition, license plate
recognition, etc. Any user registered on Awiros can install any application of her liking on any of
the cameras that she controls. There is no limit on the number of applications that may be run on
a single camera either. The process is in part similar to that of installing an app on your phone- if
you want a certain application to be running on your camera you can go up to the Awiros app
store and install it onto that camera with the click of a button. If you don't want it anymore,
simply uninstall it. A single user can control any number of cameras irrespective of their
geographical locations.

Awiros Facial Recognition System
With its unique set of Computer Vision and Deep Learning algorithms the Awiros FRS is one of the
most accurate facial recognition solutions till date, allowing your cameras to identify faces with
great precision. And not just that, it allows you to group individuals as per your preference, search
for an individual by typing his/her name, and generates alerts as per your settings. Be it hotels,
residences, military buildings or any other kind of establishment, Awiros FRS is a one stop security
solution for all.
The Awiros Video Intelligence Unit (VIU)*
Awiros runs using the Awiros Video
Intelligence Unit, or VIU, a compact,
plug-and-play device that connects with
any existing or new CCTV installation. It
can be installed in almost no time,
transforming any basic CCTV system into
a smart system.

For large enterprise applications, Awiros

The FRS Dashboard
Your FRS dashboard displays all of the information of relevance to you in a consolidated form.
You can view any of your camera live streams, your blacklist/ white-list as well as the list of
unrecognized individuals present on the premises.

Your Dashboard categorizes the people detected on your premises into three categories:-

Blacklisted: These are the individuals whose faces have already been registered by you and
have been marked as ‘Blacklisted’. By default Awiros is configured to generate alerts when a
Blacklisted individual is detected on the premises. You may also change this settings later as
per your liking.

Whitelisted: These are the individuals whose faces have already been registered by you and
have been marked as ‘Whitelisted’. By default Awiros doesn’t generate alerts when a
whitelisted individual is detected. However, this list plays a pivotal role when you want to
check unauthorized access, wherein Awiros can be configured to generate alerts if an
unauthorized individual is detected on premises.

Unrecognized: This list shows all of the individuals who have been found to be present on the
premises but whose faces haven’t been registered by you in any of the above categories.

Every individual that is present on your premises shows up in either of the three lists, without
a single face going undetected

Adding a new face

To register a new face click on the ‘FACES’ tab on your dashboard

register a new face

Under the FACES tab you can add a new face to the system by uploading a single or multiple
images of the person you wish to register along with his/her name and gender. This is also where
you specify whether the individual is to be blacklisted or whitelisted. It is advised that you upload
multiple images of the individual whose face you wish to register so that all of the distinct features
of his/her face may be identified and recorded.

The alert contains location of the detection along with date, time as well as the percentage of
resemblance of the detected image to a registered image.

Individuals can be identified even if their faces are partly obscured.
Individual Search
You can also check the time instances when an individual was detected on the premises, by
searching for the individual’s name and specifying the time range of interest.

Click on search to list down all of the instances when that

person was detected on the premises during the specified
time range.

The system lists down all of the time instances when that individual was detected on premises in a
reverse chronological order.

Positioning of the Cameras

In order to get best results, it is required that the camera is optimally positioned for scanning faces
as they move around the premises.

Horizontal and Vertical angles
Faces can be optimally indentified as long as there is a rotation of upto 60° (30° on either side) in
either the horizontal or the vertical plane. This angle must not exceed 45° on either side. It is
therefore advised to position the camera such that any individual entering the area does not have a
face rotation of more than 30° with respect to the camera.

30° 30°

Horizontal Angle Vertical Angle

Camera Distance and Lens Focal Length
For a face to be detected its height must at least be 8% of the total screen height. The
recommended height for a good detection rate is 20% of the total screen height

Based on the above requirements you may choose your camera specifications and the distance of
the subject from the camera as follows.
¼ Inch Camera
Camera lens 2.8 mm 6 mm 8 mm 12 mm 16 mm
Farthest Distance 2.5 mm 5.3 mm 7.1 mm 10.7 mm 14.2 mm
Recommended Distance 1 m 2.1 m 2.8 m 4.3 m 5.7 m

Recommended Distance 0.7 m 1.6 m 2.1 m 3.2 m 4.3 m

Guidelines for registering a face in the FRS Database

For accurate identification and prompt generation of alerts there are a few guidelines regarding the
images that are uploaded that should be taken care of. These are:-
•  The uploaded images must have the full face of the individual.
•  The images should preferably have a neutral background.
•  The face should not be covered by hat/cap or dark coloured glasses.
•  The face should have uniform lighting over. There should not be any strong shadows on the face.
•  The face image should not have a strong backlight.
•  The image should not have a strong point light source.
•  The image should not be blurred.
•  The image should not have very low brightness levels.
•  The image should not be noisy
•  The image should not be deformed

Camera Specifications for optimum detection

•  Recommended camera resolution for optimum detection rates is 720p (1280X720) with
30fps capture rate. Camera Resolution should at least be 480p (640X480).
•  8-12 mm lens must be used for zoomed in view of face. Using a 3mm lens is not
recommended unless the camera is close to the area of interest.
•  Cameras should have good focus ability and lighting conditions should be optimum.
Progressive scan video IP camera is recommended for high quality compression settings.
•  Use High profile instead of Main Profile in H264 settings if available. Use Main instead of
Base if High is not available.
•  Use maximum bit rate for transfer typically 8-16Mbps. Enable Variable bit rate.
•  Supports all camera resolutions from 0.3 MP to 4K.
•  Minimum image size required for detection of a face: 20x20 pixels.
•  Minimum image size required for identification: 40x470 pixels. Recommended: 100x100
pixels
