Wellness Plan
1. What medium have you chosen? Please describe and/or attach/upload visual.
The medium I have chosen for my wellness plan is “prepping,” which is the period of time a
person preps before they step on stage to compete in a bodybuilding competition. I am
committing to working out for at least an hour a day, performing both cardio and weight lifting. I
plan on counting macronutrients, doing increasing cardio each week, and doing five-week
interval lifting plans. The ultimate goal is to step on stage again as a bodybuilder, which is a
hobby I had before joining the College of Nursing.
2. What does this medium represent to you? Why? Please describe why this is
meaningful.
This medium represents self-discipline, dedication, confidence, and pride. Before nursing
school, I took pride in being healthy, having big muscles, and pushing my body to limits I never
thought possible. It required a lot of self-discipline to say no to unhealthy food, especially my
nana’s homemade food, and to get myself to the gym every day. It also took dedication because
it bleeds to every aspect of my life. It affected my social life because I couldn’t go out and eat; I
had to reserve time for the gym and planned my meals. Dedication is a big part of success when
it comes to bodybuilding. The main reason I enjoy bodybuilding so much is the confidence that
comes with it. I enjoy seeing my progress over the months, and seeing what I did; it makes me
feel beautiful and strong.
Last but not least, it makes me prideful, especially on show day! When I step on stage and
flex my muscles, I get to see all my hard work pay off and the big smile on my coach's face. In
this moment I feel accomplished and prideful. Overall, I enjoy the journey and I am so excited to
be doing both this and nursing school. I feel whole again.
3. Post your personal wellness commitment statement and plan to care for YOU below.
Be specific.
I, Alyssa Benefield, will follow my dietary and workout plan for this whole semester to
take care of both my physical and mental health in hopes of competing on stage again in June.
4. Taking at least one rest day each week to not over-push my body
