Tamilnadu Dyslexia Screening Check list7-12 Years TnDC

1. Is the child (name) able to identify the alphabets A B C D E letters?(all)

2. Is he/she able to read ABCD letters ?(all)

3. Is he/she able to read sentences without difficulty?


(Not reading slowly or word by word),

4. Is he/she able to read the bigger words without struggle?

5. Is he/she able to read without spells (and read)?

6. Is he/she able to read without skipping words/ sentences?

7. Does he/she read without reversal tendency Eg. Was - Saw?

8. Does he/she read without guess work in reading?

9. Does he/she read accurately? (Reading Accuracy)

10. Does he/she read fast, as compared to the children of same age? (Reading Fluency)

11. In the small paragraph ......... ask who, when, why, what from that passage
Does he/she answer correctly without problem in comprehension?( >75% of Questions)
12. If the child is not able to read the paragraph or not able to answer
Read the passage & ask questions. Does he/she answer Correctly? (>75% of Questions)

13. As compared to the children of the same age, does the Child talk normally?

14. As compared to the children of the same age, does the Child speak fluently? (3 word sentences)

15. Is he/she able to write the (given grade wise) dictated words correctly ? >75%

Ask the child to copy a paragraph ( Grade wise paragraph given)


16. Is he/she able to copy the paragraph without difficulty?

17. Does he/she write without spelling mistakes?

18. Does he/she write without grammar mistakes?

19. Does he /she write without inverting letters M for W, u for n ?

20. Does he/she write without reversal tendency? Was - Saw

21. Is his/her handwriting Normal?


22. Is he/she able to write without mixing of upper case and lower case letters?
(In School /home work)
23. Does he/she use the correct punctuation marks while writing?

24. Does he/she write fast, as compared to children of the same age? (Writing fluency)
25. Does he/she write accurately (Writing accuracy)
26. Is he/she able to identify the numbers 1 2 3 4 ? (all)

27. Is he/she able to tell what comes after 8, before 6?

28. Is he/she able to write dictated numbers?


1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ,17 ,22, 25, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 92, 58, 28 (all)
29. Is he/she able to write the numbers without Reversal Tendency? Eg. 17 for 71.
Ask the child to do Mathematic sums (Grade wise maths sums given)
30. Add : 8 +2 = 5+8= 8+8=

31. Subtract : 7 - 5 = 9-5= 6-3=

32. Multiply : 2x2= 8x5=

33. Divide : 8/2 = 16/4 =

34. Is he able to tell if 7 + 5 = 12 5 + ? = 12

35. Is he able to memorize and tell the addition or subtraction table ( any one)

IQ should be normal, Age above 7 years. IQ of the child................

IQ should be normal, Separate sheets give for class 1 -5 IQ =


 Age / class appropriate Paragraph, Dictation words, Maths Items will be used.

 If No for more than 13 questions- & Normal IQ -SLD

1-12 -Reading problem-Dyslexia


13-14 –Speech & Language
15-25writing problem-Dysgraphiya
26-35 problem in Maths-Dyscalculiya
