1.0 OBJECTIVE
Tapered Thread Couplers are designed for use when connecting two bars of the
same diameter, where one bar can be rotated. They are available to suit bar sizes 12mm to
40mm.
2.0 SCOPE
This document enumerates the plan and execution activities of taper threaded
coupler installation for Amber home building within Aster project.

3.0 APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS


• Aster project – specifications.
• All relevant applicable BS code of practice for various civil works.
• Applicable drawings.

4.0 SAFETY
• Conditions and precautions listed in the project specifications shall be followed as
minimum.
• All staff involved in the project shall be inducted on the safety, health and
environmental issues associated with the work.
• Only trained personnel with relevant experience shall be allowed to handle
machinery.
• Appropriate barriers and other safeguards shall be provided as required by the
nature of and location of the works. All operations shall be carried out in
accordance with the safety requirements.
• All field personnel will use PPE safety requirements like safety shoes, helmets,
cover all, dust mask, etc as required.

6.0 WORK PROCEDURE


6.1 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
• Ensure that the starter rebar and coupler threaded are free dirt and grout
before installing.
• Screw couplers onto threaded end of starter rebar by hand. (Fig A)
complete tightening by using a torque wrench.

• The open end of coupler is fixed with a plastic cap to prevent cement grout
or dirt from getting in during concreting process.
• Timber plank 1” x 2” is use as cover on the top of coupler in order to give
sufficient space for joining purpose (Fig. B).

• Then steel plate is lay upon casted pile cap to protect pile cap by having
uniform load distribution.
• Earth is backfill on top of the steel plate with 600mm minimum thickness
and well compacted in order to have stiff platform for 500 tonne mobile
crane park upon it.
• After 500 tonne mobile crane is mobilize out remove the earth, steel plate
timber plank and plastic cap from the other end of coupler.
• Lower down joining bar into coupler. Complete tightening process as in
step 2 (Fig B&C)
