▪ Strict anaerobia
▪ Temperature: optimum of 37 ᵒC
▪ pH: around neutrality, between 6.5 and 8.5
▪ AVT / TAC ratio less than 0.4; threshold value of the system inhibition

During anaerobic digestion, the conversion of organic matter (OM) can be simplified according to
ed
• Part of the organic matter (OM) is used by the microorganisms (μ) to synthesize a
new biomass (n μ ).
• On the fraction of organic matter converted, 5 to 10% by weight is found in the form of biomass
• The biogas formed consists of combustible methane (50 to 75%), carbon dioxide (25 to 45%) and

methanation
Unlike methanation, which is a natural process, methanation is an industrial process.
The principle ? Carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide is reacted with hydrogen. it
allows to produce methane and water. This catalytic conversion operation is called "reaction
of Sabatier ".
