Dear Prospective Donor,

The Golden Key International Honour Society of San Jose State University (SJSU) has
embarked on an exciting new outreach campaign for the 2008 fiscal year, and we want you to
be part of it. The chapter is establishing a donation drive that will benefit our chapter’s activities.
We are seeking these donations for three major chapter endeavors:
• Golden Key Jumpstart Kit Project – The donation/drawing drive seeks to provide 500
underprivileged children in Atlanta, Georgia with school supplies and motivational
material that will further their educational careers and motivate them to seek higher
learning opportunities.
• Golden Key International Conference – The conference is an extensive two-day event,
scheduled in August and will be held in Louisiana. The conference is open to all Golden
Key members. Its objective is to provide professional development and networking
opportunities for students, as well as, increase leadership skills.

• Member outreach and community service – Increasing member activity will help our
chapter achieve Golden Key’s mission: to help members reach their full potential through
establishing and promoting integrity, leadership, collaboration, innovation, respect,
diversity, excellence, engagement, and community service.
As you know, the above endeavors will provide our members with long-term gains and help
increase their chances of finding good jobs, and provide them with opportunities to increase
their personal and professional development.
Our chapter has over 150 members and consists of the top 15 percent of the University’s
students. Currently, we are seeking donations from corporations and businesses to fund our
chapter’s activities. Our plan is to acquire donations for gift baskets that will be raffled off to our
members, their families and friends, and the community. The raffle drive will start April 1 and
last until April 25, 2008. We are currently seeking donations during the month of March.
If you are interested in making a donation, please give us a call or email us using the
information listed above. We have included detailed information about our chapter, its projects,
and past activities.
Thank you for your consideration. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Sabrina Dronek Lohrie Arruiza

Golden Key Jumpstart Kit

Purpose
We believe that this project will cover all of our set forth objectives. This project will consist of
Golden Key members performing volunteer tasks as well as serving on a subcommittee created
specifically to oversee this project. These activities will provide our members with opportunities
to:
o Participate in a service activity
o Develop leadership traits
o Increase level of involvement with chapter activities
o Realize that through taking action even in a small way, we can all help to create
a better world and give our youth a greater chance to succeed academically
o Learn and practice project and time management skills
o Develop analytical thinking and problem solving skills to meet and overcome the
challenges of this project

Project Goals
• Encourage students to graduate from secondary schooling, transition to post-secondary
education, and prepare for career development through the involvement and branded
donations from Golden Key Headquarters, Golden Key chapter member institutions,
companies, and organizations
• Advance literacy by providing students with tools and information that will assist in their
academic success
Deliverables
• Raise a minimum of $150 to fund jumpstart kits to over 500 middle school students in
Atlanta, Georgia. (The kit/program will include pencils/pens, notebooks, folders,
geometry tools, and/or university, chapter, or organization branded merchandise)
• Provide 550 university promotional brochures
• Provide 550 encouraging notes/lectures addressed to the kit recipients
• Ship donations to Sylvan Hills Middle School by May 1, 2008
Future Goals
• This project is in its first year of inception. The chosen middle school was in Atlanta
because Golden Key began in Atlanta. The goal is to grow this program to include
schools throughout the U.S just as the organization grew to encompass chapters
throughout the country.

Golden Key International Conference

Event Description
The International conference will be held over a two-day period in which a series of workshops
and conferences will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana from August 1 to August 2, 2008.

Purpose
Primary
• Network with Golden Key student members; recruit them for internships, entry-level
positions or graduate school.
Others
• Increase knowledge regarding leadership, collaboration, and personal as well as
professional development
• Teach the techniques, tools, and action steps needed to grow an organization
• Promote the entrepreneurial spirit through encouraging chapters to develop new and
innovative programs to promote youth education and literacy
• Discuss the issues and challenges of being an officer and the success factors in leading
an organization

Member outreach and involvement

Purpose
In the past there has been a lack of challenging and engaging activities for the members to
participate in; we believe that part of the reason for this was our chapter’s lack of funds for such
activities and member leadership opportunities. Our objectives for our members outreach and
involvement are:
o Increasing and expanding our community service activities.
o Creating new and exciting team building opportunities in the form of volunteer
opportunities.
o Recruiting new officers and providing them with leadership opportunities.
Subcommittee will be developed in our GK Jumpstart program that will allow
members with more leadership roles than what they would normally receive
during regular volunteer opportunities.

Goal
• Help members establish relationships with each other, build a sense of community, and
realize their true potential and value as individuals and future leaders
• Help develop skill sets that employees value
• Enhance members communication skills
• Instill pride in our organization and their own achievements, increase the level of
commitment in working with fellow members, value diversity, learn the importance of
follow through, accountability, and responsibility
• Take on new leadership roles
• Provide our members with career assistance and job placement services

Event Calendar
Currently we offer our members the following opportunities:

o Child Advocates of Silicon Valley’s Child Advocates Gala (Saturday, March 29,
2008)
