Ms. Dutton In my classroom
Kindergarten 1. I know that parents are busy so I will send home a form for you to fill out so I know when it’s best for me to contact you and/or anything else you need or want me to know. 2. We all need a break sometimes, so in my classroom I have a tent with pillows, books, and sensory toys to help the students learn self regulation. 3. Consent is very important to me! If students want to give hugs to visitors or fellow classmates, they must ask for that individual's permission. 4. Each morning when the students arrive, they are given the option of a hug, high-five, or a thumbs up. This helps the students have a fresh start the second they walk into class, no matter how the day started. 5. It is never too early to introduce life skills. We will have multiple “jobs” in the classroom such as line-leader, greeter, etc. The students will have to fill out a mock resume to earn positions which will rotate every month. 6. I love the diversity and adversity that walks I into my classroom, so I want to embrace it! If you and/or your student has non-traditional practices, holidays, or standards please let What we know matters, but who we are me know so I can respect and embrace them. matters more. 7. I take a lot of pictures in my classroom, but -Berne Brown no photos of your child will be kept or dispersed unless you wish to receive them. If so, please inform me so I can share them with you, outside of this they will be deleted! 8. According to the George Lucas Educational Foundation, “Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking.” I use flexible seating in my classroom, because it creates a healthy working environment that is comfortable for students learning.
