The Book The Carrot Seed
Transition/warm up/introduction:
I read the book The Carrot Seed. I chose this book because I thought it would be a
great book to help the children guess what they thought would happen next and
have great questions to ask. It also went well with my theme I thought. I asked the
children have they ever read the book before, I asked what they thought was going
to happen with the carrot, and would they help. The children were excited and
answered the questions and were into the book.
Adult/Child Procedures:
1.) I introduce the book to the children
2.) I ask the children questions about the book
3.) The children answered the questions
4.) I read the book to the children and asked questions along the way
5.) The children are engaged in the conversation about the book
6.) When I finished the book, I asked more questions
7.) Then I introduced the game
8.) The children got one card each and I clothes pin
9.) The children told me what fruit/vegetable they had
10.) Then the children placed the clothes pin on the letter they thought was
the appropriate letter
Scaffolding up: I could use more letters give them more than just one card
at a time to see if that works better

starts with a C
(A) told me that the Strawberry
card was easy and that he liked strawberries and pinned the letter S
Analysis
I taught this lesson because it was for them to work on their letters more and
matching it up with the appropriate picture and clothes pin the letter. i felt like this
was appropriate because the children needed help with their letters and knowing
how they look and that’s why both activities were based on letters. Having the
picture of the fruit or vegetable and having them tell me what it was I think helped
the children out with figuring out the letter that matched with the picture because
the children could hear and understand what they were saying. I would change
some of the vegetables to some that was more familiar to them because the
children did not know what Spinach and Celery was and I did not think about that
when I made the cards I just saw them as vegetables and I should’ve kept in mind
that they should be vegetables they know and are familiar with.
Reflection
While creating this activity I was not sure how I was going to deliver it, but I
got it done. I did feel bad that M was not interested in any of my lessons I taught.
Even though he had a fever on this he just was not interested in the beginning
either. I wish I had more time to figure out what would get his attention so he could
play along with everyone else. But having him not interested helped me to see that
I should have a lot of backups to keep them engaged and active.
