Lesson Plan
Assessment Students will be assessed by how well they respond to questions in the class and
their individual participation.
Introduction/Opening of Lesson:
Teacher will introduce the genre to the students and elicit from them what they already know about
autobiographies.
Teacher will discuss various examples of autobiography for example The Diary of Anne Frank, The
Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin etc.
Teacher will share the features of autobiographies i.e.
It refers to name individuals
Written in past tense
Should include feelings
Written in first person
Events are anecdotal in style to engage readers.
Teacher will then share the elements of an autobiography:
Character are well developed and are true to life
Setting is described vividly
Details are of two types i.e. Subjective and Objective
Subjective Details are based on personal feelings and opinions and cannot be
proved.
Objective Details are facts based on life and can be proven.\
Anecdotes are short, often humorous stories that enliven writing and illustrate a point.
Point of View is the perspective from which an autobiography is written. Since
autobiographies are written by people; they are told from the first person point of view and
uses the pronouns I, me and mine.
Author’s Purpose is the author’s reason for writing. Authors of autobiographies often want

to make sense of events in their lives and to communicate important personal statement
about life. They may also want to give credit to people who have influenced them.
Controversial individuals often write autobiographies to explain or justify their actions.
Development:
Teacher will then show the students a video on Autobiography to further reinforce the concept in
their minds.
Students will then read the Extract 1: Gerrard—My Autobiography on Pages 25-26 of English
Checkpoint 1
Teacher will explain the meanings of difficult words, where necessary.
Students will then attempt Questions 1-7 on Page 27 in their notebooks.
Conclusion
Teacher will discuss answers to ensure accuracy.

Assessment Students will be assessed on their individual work and participation in the class.

Introduction/Opening of Lesson:
Teacher will elicit the prior knowledge of autobiography features from the students.
A brief recap of the features of autobiography will be held, building up a class discussion.
Development:
Students will read the extract Mary Seacole on Page 12-13 of English Checkpoint Workbook 1.
Teacher will encourage students to identify the main events and techniques used and discuss the
meanings of difficult words.
Students will then attempt Questions 1-6 on Pages1-6 of Workbook 1.
Conclusion:
Teacher will discuss the answers to ensure accuracy and the students will be given a chance to modify their
answers.

write.
