U.S. KANKAL - “Design and development of self –propelled weeder for field crops”
(International journal of agriculture, October 2013)
• To solve the weeding problem, self propelled weeder was designed developed, at the
university of agricultural sciences, Raichur.
• The self propelled weeder was designed on the basis of the agronomic and machine
parameters. The main features of prototype self propeller weeder, was a 4Hp petrol start
kerosene run engine, power transmission system, weeding blade(sweep) and cage wheel.
• The rated engine speed 3600rpm was reduced to 23rpm of the cage wheel using chain and
sprocket mechanism.
Varikuti Vasantha Rao- “Multiple Power Supplied Fertilizer Sprayer”,(Int. journal of
advance research in agriculture, volume 3,August 2013)
• The proposed system is the modified model of the two stroke petrol engine powered sprayer
which minimizes the difficulties of the existing power sprayer such as operating cost,
changing of fuel etc.
• The two stroke petrol engine has been replaced by a direct current motor and operated by the
electrical energy stored in the battery attached to the unit.
• It could also be operated on direct current during rainy and cloudy weather conditions. This
system can be used for spraying pesticides, fungicides, fertilizers and paints.
Problem identification
• To fabricate a weeder for low cost.
• To save the time of farmers and increase the productivity of the food varieties.
• To fabricate a portable weeder which can be used for multiple purpose.
• To replace the conventional petrol engine by a solar powered battery.
• To reduce environmental pollution.
• To reduce workers fatigue and stress.
Objectives
• To fabricate a solar powered mechanical weed removing machine with pesticide sprayer.
Materials and methodology
Parts of Mechanical Weeder
• Battery
• Motor
• Wheels
• Hoeing action
• Frame
• Blades/ weeder
• Switch box
• Sprayer unit
Battery
• The wire is connection is made from the switch to the battery and then from the
battery to the motor, so that the blades will start to act.
• After assembling all the parts, machine working is started by pressing ON button
of the switch.
• The battery is placed with the help of battery stand. So, the charged battery started
to operate and it will produce a required amount of power to the motor.
• The battery should be charged for 3-4hrs after the continues use of weed removing
machine.
• With the help of power supply the motor starts to rotates on either side.
• The rotary motion is converted into reciprocating motion of the arm , which
results in the digging motion of the blades.
