563-031 CHECKLIST FOR PROCUREMENT OF COAL
HANDLING SYSTEM BY SEA
1.0 SCOPE
This checklist covers the general aspects of following procurement activities for
Coal Handling System by sea :
2.3 General check list for procurement of material handling system / equipment –

2.7 Design guide for ‘Preparation of flow diagram of coal handling system’ TCE-M6-
ME-563-015.
3.1.2 Minimum and maximum Dead Weight Tonnes (DWT) capacity of ships to be
received.
3.1.3 Type of unloaders – grab bucket unloader (or) continuous ship unloaders.
3.1.4 In case of receipt of gearless ships, the scope of supply of ship unloaders
mounted on the berth shall be clearly spelt out.
3.1.5 Lowest low tide level and maximum high tide level.
3.1.7 Detailed dimensioned G.A. drawings showing the layout of equipment on the
berth including conveyors, travelling hoppers, if applicable, continuous ship
unloader if applicable, walkways, access for fire protection mobile vans, dust
suppression piping, cable location for travelling hoppers, continuous ship
unloader(s) mounted on the berth shall be furnished.
3.1.9 Travelling hoppers shall be specified only if the geared vessels are likely to be
received.

3.1.10 Scope of travelling hopper rails required on the berth shall be furnished.
3.2.1 Type of grab bucket unloader i.e. travelling luffing type with a boom / gantry crane
type.
3.2.3 Cream digging rate of each grab bucket unloader in tonnes / hour.
3.2.4 Whether hopper receiving coal from grab bucket shall be mounted on the
travelling unloader or separately.
3.2.5 Details of feeding arrangement required from the hopper to jetty conveyor(s).
3.2.7 Whether dust suppression arrangement required or not? If required type and brief
details of the same.
3.2.8 Limitations, if any, in regard to total weight and maximum wheel load of the
unloader.

3.3.6 Whether dust control arrangement is required? If required type and brief details of
the same.
3.3.7 Limitations if any, in regard to total weight and maximum wheel load of the
unloader.
3.4.2 Design & construction details like valley angle of the hopper, outlet dimensions,
liner details, top opening details, height restrictions, details of feeder below the
outlets, isolation gate details, travel speed and drive motor details, rail clamping
details, brake for travel, control of travelling hoppers and its feed rate, etc., shall
be specified.
3.4.3 Whether arrangement for dust suppression required? If required, type of dust
suppression and details of the same.
4.1 Gantry crane details such as travel speed, total weight of crane, wheel loads,
lifting arrangement for boom portion etc.

4.2 Grab bucket details like capacity, dimensions, material of construction, speeds,
rated capacity, drive ratings, etc.
4.4 Jetty details like width, top of jetty level, arrangement of conveyors, trailing cable
layout, dust suppression piping arrangement, etc.
